0:) it is an old tradition :

The "Blanc Moussi", which means "clad in white", is particularly symbolic of this traditional Carnival. Its origins stem from a simple make do disguise - a bed sheet and a white pillow - and appeared in all the parades. Topped off with a pointed carrot-nosed mask, this disguise takes on a very different meaning in Stavelot, making a parody of the monks of the fifteenth century who were forbidden from celebrating the carnival after a period of excessive freedom and laziness. Beginning on Sunday, the "Blancs Moussis" wander the streets of the town putting up their irreverent posters. In the afternoon they step out from the cortège while staying on their floats and shower the crowds with confetti while flogging them with pork bladders!!!!!

Both Binche and Stavelot are (small) towns in southern Belgium / Wallonia.

Stavelot is situated in the midst of protected natural surroundings, not far from the Hautes-Fagnes nature reserve, on the edge of the Amblève river, close to the famous Coo waterfall and the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack. The town is renowned for its local traditions and its celebrated folk group, the Blancs Moussis, and enchants its visitors with the charm of its picturesque lanes, Saint-Remacle square and its outstanding heritage.

I'm considering going as Werther.

Must be a very exciting day for you, at least you can be someone else for one day.
