Explains the intelligence, but Ravelism can happen in even only the best of families.

As for Kodaly his best piece by far is the solo cello sonata op 8.
Fixed your typo. :)

I don't know why but I have always associated Karlhenning with Brahms. And not merely in the sense that he likes Brahms's music, I mean really, his (excellent) sense of humor reminds me of Brahms etc. One important difference is that Karl is always polite but Brahms is kind of a grumpy bear.

Time for some new associations:

Karl Henning and Stravinsky - I always seem to associate Karl with Stravinsky for some reason. I know he loves his music, but even in Karl's own music there's this sense of clarity that also brings to mind Webern in some instances.

Monkey Greg and Strauss - As much as Greg loves other composers (as I know he does) --- he still strikes me as this forum's supreme Straussian and, of course, I mean this in the most positive sense.

Jeffrey Smith and Mahler - There may be some other 'Mahlerians' on our board, but Jeffrey is the greatest one of them all.

Harry and (insert composer here) - Some Baroque composer that I've never heard of. :)

Brian and Dvorak - There's no separating the two. They're glued to each other.

Karlo (North Star) and Janacek - There may be some other Janacekians here but Karlo is the only one I know who'd actually have a screen name "Janacekian" (via his Flickr account).

71 dB and Elgar - Nothing more needs to be said.

Jeffrey (Vandermolen) and Vaughan Williams - As much as Jeffrey talks about Miaskovsky (who's his avatar), I still can't shake the impression that that he's actually the biggest RVW fan on the forum.

Ritter and Boulez - Just look at his posts in the Boulez thread. 'Nuff said. 8)

More to come...

For Jessop, I'm leaning towards a modern Lou Harrison but I'm not sure whether we're talking about their personality or music?

I obviously associate myself with Xenakis, as he's my favorite composer.

:o just reading about him (I only know very little) and I have to say that I am flattered!!!

I can't figure out where you got that idea from... :D

No....nailed it!  ;)

As for yourself, John, if you permit me, the name that immdiately comes to mind (despite your varied musical allegiances) is....Bohuslav Martinů...

Cheers,

Brian

For a long time I associated John with Pettersson but then he posted the other day that he doesn't like Pettersson at all...

I just searched through all of his posts about Pettersson, and it seems like he loved the composer from 2009-2011, even saying in 2010 that the CPO complete symphonies box was "one of my most prized possessions," but in spring 2012 he changed his mind and decided that only the Seventh Symphony was worth that praise. Weird and scary to think that I've not only been on GMG for 4 years, and talking to MI on GMG for 4 years, but been completely wrong about whether MI likes a composer for 4 entire years!

:) I always fancied you a Brucknerian for some reason, Sarge.

I won't believe anyone who says otherwise. Not even Sarge!  ;) $:)
