Happy to hear it arrived and are enjoying it...and had I known, I would have tossed in an extra for your post woman! :)

#561
Well temporarily revived for this box.
Not all at once please.
To give away!

Bruckner Masses.

Anton Bruckner.
Mass no. 1 in D minor for soloists Choir & Orchestra.
Isabelle Muller Kant, Eibe Mohlmann, Daniel Sans, Christof Fischesser.
Chamber Choir of Europe.
Wurttembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Nicol Matt.
Recorded in 2003.

"Omnia ad majorem Dei gloriam" was the dedication Bruckner gave to this Mass, but in all honesty I would say that goes for his complete works, especially the Symphonies. What I make of this mass I really don't know. The performance is not the best, from all concerned, although they do their utmost. The recording is somewhat odd, but I will get used to that. This structurally complicated work needs a expert group of people and is not taken on to lightly. Save for this minor drawback I sense I lot of likable things in it, and even the opening of the heavens around 7:12-8:00. Well I have to listen to this often I guess, and at least find a better performance of this D minor mass.

Anton Bruckner.
Te Deum, for Soloists, Choir & Orchestra. (1884)
Psalm 150.
Pamela Coburn, Soprano.
Ingeborg Danz, Alto.
Christian Elsner, Tenor.
Franz Josef Selig, Bass.
Gachinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Bach Collegium Stuttgart/Helmut Rilling

Well these forces are much better as on the previous disc, but that is not to say these are perfect, far form it, I would say. The greatness of these works are without doubt though!
Pamela Coburn is a far from perfect soprano, and she tends to scream, with a very thin tone in the upper register, something I dislike with all my heart. The Kantorei applies volume at too high a force, almost hammering the notes out, though not all the time, it has its redeeming moments. And that would be my conclusion about this recording.
Psalm 150 has some very nasty singing from this choir, and not at all the quality it usually emits.

Absolutely loved the first Handel cd Harry, as did the wife.  In fact, the only time I will be able to hear them is in her car as she snagged the whole lot this morning.  ;D

I am glad you like them, and sorry to hear your wife has become quite possessive of the cd's I send! ;D
But then women tend to do that.......sometimes...... ::) :)

I really love the sound of these two Erato discs (flute concertos & viola concertos)...very rich and warm.  Great 'at work' discs for the moment...Vivaldi will be joining me in the car over the next few days.

Thanks again!

Keemun

The Vivaldi concerto CDs arrived yesterday and I'm listening to them now.  Thanks again, Harry!  :)

Harry, my Judas Maccabeus, German Arias and Bach ctos arrived last week. And then, on the next day the Chopin-Pires et al. Sorry, couldn't report earlier - I'm having a very busy week. ;D

Speaking of which, I saw one or two of those Vivaldi Erato discs I didn't get in a used store near where I work, so perhaps I'll get them after all (haven't made up my mind, they have other interesting items as well ;D).

I am sorry to hear, and I see it of course, that you are not often on line, to share your thoughts about the recordings I send to you. That is indeed a pity, and a bit of a loss, for I am always interested if my ex cd's came to the right address, and are appreciated.
Maybe times get better for you, in that it allows you to participate more on GMG. :)

Since I ordered the complete version of Don Giovanni by Mozart, under the baton of Giulini on EMI, with full libretti I am sure, this disc given to me by Paul, and served its fruitfull purpose, is available for the taking. I am sure Paul would not mind, that I could not live without the complete set, o, he knew what he was doing the scoundrel, by sending the highlights cd......... ;D
And the complete set which I will keep, when it comes in! ;D
