Looks like a great CD.  BTW I just bought Janine Jansen's new Bach CD, and am enjoying it very much.  Don't tell HH that I'm seeing other violinists.   ;D

My pleasure, no problem. ;D

I have that disk and have enjoyed it many times. It was your Danse Macabre suggestion that put me in mind of it, so you can say it was merely a development of your theme... ;)

When I read the title to this thread, "A Night on Bald Mountain" (or "St. John's Night on the Bare Mountain" - the original, not the "Rimskorgsky") immediately came to mind; closely followed by "Symphonie fantastique".

So there you have them, my suggestions. 8)

Edit: Just noticed you mentioned the latter yourself. ;)

PaulR

i concur with the original Night on Bald Mountain suggestion!  and also Symphonie Fantastique as well.

Shostakovich's Hamlet has its moments. Also if I might suggest the new Naxos movie-soundtrack CD "Monster Music"? It seems appropriate  ;D

Cato

Liadov's Baba Yaga  :o   !!!

Schoenberg's Pelleas und Melisande: the sections where the brothers go into the grotto, and then the fratricide scene itself.   :o      :o      :o
"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

- Brian Aherne introducing Rosalind Russell in  My Sister Eileen (1942)

Penderecki's Cello Concerto has moments that seem appropriate to Halloween.  Other than that, I can't think of anything to add to the list that is already here.

Hey Harry! Just dropping in for Halloween! Greetings from the USA!

Yes, I do love these pieces. By chance, I was thinking of Halloween music when this thread opened up.

Surprisingly, I fing great similarities between these two composers.
