I'm far more in favor of Vals list which is nearly perfect for me. Pity room couldn't be found for Shatakovich and Nielsen though.

some guy

No mention of Prokofiev's quintet, yet. (I guess I could have waited for a bit so that Karl or Mark could offer this one, but I just didn't. Has what has to be the coolest one pitch clarinet lick ever.) Ligeti has a couple of nice wind quintets floating around somewhere, too. There's a "pretty" one and there's a beautiful one that repays repeated listenings at a higher interest rate. (Don't misunderstand--the six bagatelles are very nice. The ten pieces are nicer, that's all.)

practically any cd of american wind qnts.

- Bruckner : String Quintet
- Schnittke : Piano Quintet (don't know it)

in favor of Brahms 2 string quintets, and Mozart clarinet quintet though.

3 favourite piano quintets by

Leo Ornstein
Nikolai Medtner
Ernest Bloch (no.1)

Here's the first movement of the Ornstein - it's an Allegro barbaro.

is anyone familiar with

ALLAN PETTERSSON Concerto No.1 for violin and string quartet? (1949)

it is becoming my favorite mid-century chamber work.

Yes, but it never made much of an impression on me. Guess I'll try again.
