Manuel,

I am filled with shame. I just now noticed that there were two Goebbels pieces. And the one I wanted was Aus einem Tagebuch.

Can you ever forgive me?

If you can, could you ever so sweetly get the Tagebuch piece for me?

Michael

(To everyone else, Schwarz auf Weiss is a very nice piece indeed. Download it. You'll see!)

Lilas Pastia

The Henze is downloaded. Onto the queue!

Hello!
Is there still a way to get this "moniuszko.zip" file somewhere?
Thanks in advance for your help,
T.

Last night's final concert of the Stanislaw Moniuszko Vocal Competition.

Commentators said that all of the contestants had some (minor) flaws in their technique (don't ask me about the details, I know next to nothing about singing) but that the two first prizes were definitely well earned - in fact, they kept comparing Oxana Shilova to Anna Netrebko (one of the critics - not a great fan of Netrebko, BTW - even said he felt the Russian star should start worrying about competition).

These are seperate mp3 files for each of the arias zipped into one archive containing also a txt document containing full info on the performers. I'm copying the main details below nontheless:

Thanks for the Goebbels, Manuel. The Tagebuch Goebbels.

And an odd little piece it is, to be sure. Doesn't sound much like Goebbels, except for a few tiny licks here and there. More like what say Poul Ruders would do after listening to Goebbels.

It reminded me very much of that Haunted Landscape thing by Crumb, not in that it sounded like it, but that it's the same kind of "here's what this person can do with a full orchestra and without really sounding much like himself" thing.

Plus, you gave us Henze's eighth, too, bless you. Now we can hear this without having to wait for Capriccio to get off its butt. Not that that still won't be nice to buy, or anything. :)

Lilas, if you're still interested in Donatoni. I bought a Stradivarius CD of his orchestral works yesterday. They're very nice. Oddly enough, they never reminded me much of Nono or Scelsi. Little bits and pieces reminded me of Ligeti and some early Penderecki. Not much, though. Maybe more like Huber, Eckert, and Lachenmann than the Italians. Nice bright, hard-edged music. Very listenable.

I just got the Stradivarius CD of the chamber works. The last one's on as I type this note to you. I was very taken with this disc as well. His very transparent style works just as well or better with chamber music, as one would expect. This last piece on the CD, with soprano, is a trifle too lyrical (old school lyrical) for my tastes, but it's still quite a good piece. I should just get over myself probably!

Well, yes. Donatoni is one composer I have only sampled so far. I'd need a better way of getting acquainted with his music than just soundbites :D

I posted links to rapidshare in the thread dedicated to John Foulds. They are about his World Requiem, which was performed last sunday in the Royal Albert Hall in London and broadcasted on BBC radio 3.
You can find it here:

Does anyone have the Psalm 150 by Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera?

Lilas Pastia

Thanks for double-posting here, Thom. I would never have found this Foulds Requiem link otherwise :-*.
