The key to inaccessibility is to begin your post with discussions of vibrational fields .........

Vibrations fields are wonderful, don't you think?  8)

Yes, that would enliven my spirit, and retrieve me from my depths of desolate despair ......

I'm here for you. I would cast more than one vote for Prokofiev if I could.

Actually, if there were a way for her to vote seven (7) times ..........

The Sevenfold Vote of Mrs Rock . . . .

Despite their contemporary status, I can't choose between the two. Shostakovich can be absolutely masterful on the one hand, and incredibly weak on the other (Songs of the Forests; The Sun Shines over our Motherland; even symphony no.12...). Maybe Prokofiev wasn't quite so strong symphonically, particularly when he would re-design earlier material as in symphonies 3 & 4 for example, but works such as the 1st VC, Romeo & Juliet, Seven they are Seven, Scythian Suite, etc are so original. It feels sometimes that although Shostakovich can be recognisably influenced by (e.g.) Mahler, Prokofiev was entirely original. (JMHO)

I actually think the Song of the Forests good for what it is.  So it isn't the B Minor Mass . . . .

But I agree completely on inability (and lack of any need) to choose one over the other.

Hmmm . . . Seven, Her Votes Are Seven

Seeing I still do not own Shostakovich's SQ's, I feel that I am incapable of making a sound choice.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

couldn't she deregister and then reregister a bunch of times, or would it erase the votes?

they're pretty good...... obviously Shostakovich woops Prokofiev in the SQ department, no comparison.....

That's fair enough, though I wouldn't compare 'Songs' with any mass, B minor or otherwise. I'd compare it more along the lines of Prokofievs 'Zdravitsa'  which I definitely prefer over 'Songs'. But that's the subjectivity of music.

Well, and just as obviously Prokofiev woops Shostakovich in the Piano Sonata department, no comparison  0:)

Mrs. Rock rocks!

Should she perhaps be The Mrs. Rock?

Or Mrs. The Rock?

Maybe she Mrs. The Boat?   0:)  Or The Beat?   8)
Of course the Go-Go's claim "We Got the Beat."

But let's leave borscht out of this discussion!

Does Shostakovich "whop" Prokofiev in the Socialist Realism department?    :o
