Harmonia Mundi's 'Luxurious Limited Edition Box Set'  ::) of Baroque opera is available for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk for the somewhat arbitrary sum of £46.73 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DHCJLWG/

The only other place I can find it is Amazon.de for €82.99 - no idea the actual RRP. Contents are given on the Harmonia Mundi website - http://asp.zone-secure.net/v2/index.jsp?id=1393/1778/5744&lng=en (link takes you to the HM autumn catalogue, click through to page 19 for details)

That's 17 complete operas across 39 CDs, 3 DVDs and 1 CD-ROM - expect numerous duplication of the operas included in other Baroque Harmonia Mundi box sets, another repackaging of Jacob's Giulio Cesare and a couple of OOP rarities, all sans proper libretti  :)

It even includes a CD-ROM, presumably with all the libretti? :o Well, if that is the case, even I might seriously consider this one.... :D

I don't have Campra's Idomenee, neither do I have the the supplementary CD or the Giulio Cesare DVD, but that's about it.....I'll pass.

The 'Lumieres' box includes the libretti of the three operas from the set in a CD-ROM. As for I've seen, HM (along with Hyperion, perhaps) delivers the goods, even when they're just repackaging old material in a new box.

The Decca opera reissues ("the opera company" series) includes very good downloadable libretti I've discovered. I've just downloaded Boris Godunov and "Kitezh" libretti, and they're very readable.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I consider eLibretti 'improper'.

Perhaps for any future CD super-bargains with a downloadable element we could have a third SDCB thread, allowing for deals that mix the corporeal/incorporeal :)

I guess in this case I'm lucky to leg behind  ;D : I have already Telemann's Orpheus (no big deal BTW), Lully's Atys, and Jacob's Giulio Cesare, but that is here on DVD

I ordered the Baroque Opera box from Amazon UK to the USA. With shipping it came to 42 pounds, about $67. USA customers get a break on the VAT so it comes out less thatn the posted price for UK customers.

FYI Harmonia Mundi puts the libretti on a CD rom. A bit of a pain but better than paying a lot for the paper.

and on fortepian Sofronitsky for about $40  http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Fortepiano-Concerto-Viviana-Sofronitsky/dp/B004M5BZR6/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1375981678&sr=1-1&keywords=sofronitsky+mozart

Now that really is a bargain. I paid what seemed at the time like a fortune for my set on its initial release, but even so it was worth every penny. I loved her whole approach from the outset - but the set has polarised opinion. Much as I wanted to love Immerseel's set of PCs (I admire the man's Beethoven symphonies so much), I just found them too polite. But Viviana rocks; and if you want an in-your-face HIP interpretation that bristles with life, and if listening to some samples doesn't turn you off, she ought to be worth a try at this price.

Happily I paid 20 something for Sofronitsky. I think it's a terrific set, but I like Joss too. I grew up on some of the Anda. In Canada the Ashkenazy set is around for about 30 to 40 if you look.

I have the Boccherini box and I like it, but I don't have a lot of other versions in my collection to compare it to.
