I liked the Aeolian Beethoven when I had it but I sold their Haydn at a loss just to get rid of it. The sound is poor, the ensemble is often a bit rough, and the lead violin is often quite wayward. Most over at Amazon like it, but we're pickier here!

At $9.49 for the download, I consider this super-duper cheap for “Papa's” complete Piano Sonatas:

Six discs, nine dollars (from a marketplace seller).  It's on the Membrane label, which is sometimes described as dicey, but the samples seem to indicate vivid performances in good sound.

I wish I could find Pachelbel's organ works for an attractive price.  Some volumes of the Dorian set are cheap, others are out of print and very expensive.

Nine!!! :o Got my copy for six, a few years ago. ;D It's licensed, BTW, from Classico Records.

CPO has released a 5-CD box -- and that's just the first volume. Haven't heard it, though. Perhaps something to include in the next JPC order? ;)

That looks interesting.  I saw "volume 1" on an Amazon search and assumed it was a single disc.  The Dorian cycle is 11 discs in total, so it seems like they could be done with it in two volumes of this size.

My only qualm is that the list of contents seems to suggest this volume is mainly liturgical music, and what I am interested in are preludes and fugues.

Now available: Morton Feldman - Crippled Symmetry: at June in Buffalo, performed by The Feldman Soloists (Eberhard Blum, Nils Vigeland, Jan Williams)

I picked up the Spangg Hansen Buxtehude years ago for $6. The sound is excellent. The performances are a bit free and sometimes seem a bit odd. But you won't regret it for $9!

Not quite a super bargain, but...

[asin]B001HBX8QO[/asin]
J.S. Bach: COMPLETE ORGAN WORKS [Gerhard Weinberger] (CPO, 22cd)

at Amazon U.S. direct for the odd price of $68.64.  From JPC direct to the USA, I think I comes to ~$74 ex-VAT including shipping.  Still cheaper than everywhere else I have seen.
I have been listening to samples of this for quite a while and I think I might finally take the plunge.

Thoughts of JPC bargains reminded me of this set, which several of us got at a super duper cheap price, and now I see (at least on Amazon) it's definitely not cheap.

A pupil of MC Alain.  The extra CDs represent earlier recordings outside the actual cycle, and a CD of concertos for multiple keyboards played on chamber organs instead of harpsichords; one of Vernet's partners on that CD is Alain herself.
[asin]B00004TRRS[/asin]

Which is actually priced almost as much as the full set!  But at least you can get the single CD used for $20.

At any rate, if you ever see the Vernet at a rational price,  grab it.

ETA: the cover image.  IIRC, that's Frederick of Prussia chasing Augustus of Saxony.

No need to taunt me in return!   :)
Yes, that Vernet was super enticing, but not at that price.  I will have it someday.
