Thank-you King-Ubu

For those who like box-sets the amazon.it offer should not be missed.

I got the Ushida Mozart (25€) and the Debussy edition (38€).

Alrhough I refrain from collecting multiple versions of the same works, one has to make a few exceptions.  This Ushida set will be my 3rd Mozart set.  Unfortunately it does not contain the variations.

The content of the Debussy box will also mean some duplication.  Most of what is in it is by great Debussy specialists and isnt too old, which is the main problem of these boxes.

Thank you for this tip.
Unfortunately I have most of the stuff that is on offer.
But very good deals.

Sorry to hear that  :(, .but it was hardly unexpected by now...

They actually are offering one remaining set  at ca. 70 € with the "prime" tag added to it (so it's amazon who's selling), so the excuse they've fabricated is, well, that, an excuse...it's hardly unavailable!

Isn't it just easier to say there was a pricing mistake? They told me that once when I ordered the Harnoncourt / Leonhardt complete Bach cantatas at a ridiculously low price...

Not necessarily. Amazon Marketplace sellers can also offer prime shipping. When you list something on amazon marketplace you can ship it to them to store in their warehouse, then all Amazon shipping policies and rates apply.

On the UK Amazon site it is offered and sold by Amazon.

Nevertheless, the email I have just received gives the 'excuse' From time to time, items sold and dispatched by Amazon become unavailable and we're unable to source them'. What a bunch of liars!

But no, these are plain lies.... Oh, well...

Not the same as unavailability, and no reason to cancel - I've been waiting for much longer than a few weeks for this cancellation... 8)

True enough - especially considering it took 6 months for them to get a hold of the Manze Biber violin sonata set.  ::)

And it is not in stock is it? Order it, see if it ships.

What is your theory? They make money by not charging you? Low Mark up but high volume; there are 7 billion other people they didn't charge for this too. No wonder Bezos is so rich!  ::)

Reading this thread I suddenly understand why they print DO NOT EAT on those little silica packs.

Amazon  profits are down 70% this semester because of guys like you (and me !!).  Their 'prime promotion' are money loosing operations to lure clients.  I use them but I dont like the way they do commerce.  You would think they would have an editorial departement giving advice on the multitude of cultural products coming out.  But no.  I have to go for my local bookstore for that.

Which are actually not toxic.  The silica just acts like an extra dose of fiber in your digestive system.

Found this out when I had to call the poison hotline for a customer whose kid in fact ingested a silica pack from the box of shoes she was trying on.

I merely object that in these circumstances i.e. mis-pricing, Amazon strings the customer along for months knowing full well that they will eventually cancel but hope that the customer does first. Not content with that they then provide an 'excuse' that is disingenuous and way off the truth. Hypocrisy is alive, well and kicking in Amazon.

It's a very clever strategy.... just wear the other side out... 8)

The funny thing is....that I knew this would happen, but kept the order all the same... Just to see if they would do it again... ::)

Unhealthy.... :D

True. It's a serious choking hazard though since the dust is so dry it sticks. Better swallowed whole than chewed upon!

Here is an edited down account of my communications with Amazon.

Amazon to me:
"Hello,
We've cancelled Richard Strauss - Complete Operas (DG box set) (Asin: B00G4PV0H2) from your order #202-7454107-9345147 and you haven't been charged.
From time to time, items sold and dispatched by Amazon become unavailable and we're unable to source them.
We're sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Regards,
Customer Service Department
Amazon.co.uk"

Me to Amazon:
"I ordered the item over 3 months ago when it was listed at an incredibly low price. The charge would have been £13.01 including postage. Shortly after I was informed that it was temporarily out of stock and I was given a revised delivery date. I waited patiently and checked on the item listing every week. It fluctuated in price and availability, but even when it was listed as being available. my order was not filled.
Even in the last week the item listing changed to indicate it was in stock and could be shipped to Australia. That was still the case as I started to type this message."

Amazon to Me:
"From your email, I understand that you have purchased an item Richard Strauss - Complete Operas (DG box set) which was cancelled and now the price of the item has increased.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by this situation and it is never our intention to cause inconvenience to our honest and valuable customer like you.
Please allow me to explain that the price for the item was displayed incorrectly at the time you placed your order.
Despite our best efforts, with the millions of items available on our website, pricing errors can occasionally occur.
Where an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will cancel the order and notify you of that cancellation. That seems to happen in your case.
I have checked and can see that the order is cancelled and you are not charged for the order.
If you still wish to purchase this item, please place a new order online which will be charged at the correct price, when we dispatch it to you."

Finally, Me to Amazon:
"Thank you for responding so quickly, however your explanation is far from satisfactory.

I placed my order over 3 months ago. Between then and now I received out of stock notifications as well as revised delivery dates. At no time did you indicate that the advertised price was incorrect. You cancelled my order just now stating that you were unable to source the item. I see that as a blatant lie since the item listing showed its availability over the last 3 months. Your cancellation appears to be nothing more than an unwillingness to fulfil my order. By the way, I am aware of one buyer who received the set at the very low price quoted when I placed my order.

If you had been up front and honest with me and notified me right at the beginning of an error in pricing and cancelled my order then, I would have accepted the situation and moved on. As it was you strung me along for three months giving me every expectation that I would receive the item. In my opinion you have been deceitful and unprofessional. Keep the box. I no longer want it and would hate to be responsible for putting a dent in Amazon's profit margin. You and your team have completely lost my respect."
