I've heard that the Bescol set isn't very good.

I had the Bescol 9th and liked the performance. Later on I acquired the complete set on Everest. The improvement in sound quality is significant so $4 is a fair price. The Everest came from their own original 35mm tapes. The bescol sounded like it was taken directly from an LP.

Hm, how much overlap is there exactly between this and the Seon/Vivarte boxes? I bet plenty, but it's not that easy to figure out (and in some parts, i.e. the Paris Quartets, the Leonhardt Edition only contains parts).

Leonhardt Edition is 15 CDs: 6 DHM, 5 Seon, and 4 1990s Sony.

The Seon box is exhaustive, so those 5 are definitely duplicated.

The 90s Sonies in Leonhardt Edition are: "Kurfürstliche Cembalomusik aus Dresden"; Böhm: Keyboard Works; Bach: Cantatas 27, 34 & 41; and Telemann: Paris Quartets 1-6. The Böhm and Telemann are specifically marked Vivarte. The other 2 are not, and I can't tell whether they were Erichson productions.

Leonhardt Edition is in my cull pile, strictly because of duplication. The musical quality is very high.

Cross-posting with the download thread: CD Baby currently offers 70 free classical downloads.  Most titles are not exactly enticing, but I found three that I'm getting.  CD Baby offers about 2,600 free titles total in all genres.  Downloads are available as MP3 and FLAC.

Thanks a lot for this!

The Telemann (but 1-12, not just 1-6) are in the first Vivarte box (I don't have the second, but the Böhm seems to be in neither of them).

Still, too much duplication at least if seen in ratio to the huge piles of unlistened discs anyway (which include 90% of the SEON and prob. 50% of the first Vivarte boxes).

But then again, the box comes in your house for only 9,99 € ;) duplication makes for good Christmas presents ;D

I hear ya. It's not a bargain if you never listen to it.

Yeah, see? There I am, trying hard to behave sanely for a change and then Harry is making it so hard ... just not fair  :'(

But this time I shall resist.

Just got the shipping notification for the Jurowski London box from presto's already  ;D

I just bought 2 of these individual issues for the price of this set (9.99€)

..................................................................

There's this, too, for those so inclined: 13 discs for 9.99€.

Pre orders for the new Bernstein box are $179 for 100 CDs.  Looks like a handsome box--similar to the big original jacket Rubinstein box.  If memory serves (and admittedly, it often doesn't) when I first became aware of this set it was listed at $221.
The discs look shorter than those in the two earlier Sony sets (although the average is 51 minutes a disc, which isn't bad, if the Amazon ad is to be trusted regarding the total time).

It says "remastered," which would be good, of course, but the sound was really good on the previous incarnation(s), so I wonder if it has been remastered since then, or just since the original releases...
It's all good...
