For some people this may be a interesting proposition?

Every box holds 18 CD'S for 29,95.
It is not my cup of tea, but for others it might just be.

I really understand why companies waste their time on compiling these completely random selections..... ::)

I need your collective minds!

Anybody here familiar with this new box set? "Legendary Soviet Recordings"; 100 cds, Yedang Classics label.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B079967KGY/?coliid=I38NUDMGSTQ0XR&colid=11AMI4Z7BAR66&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
It is definitely a bargain in terms of the price - it is currently about USD 95 shipped to the US.

More detailed info here (in rough translation): https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ja&sp=nmt4&u=http://tower.jp/article/feature_item/2018/01/26/1109&xid=17259,15700021,15700124,15700149,15700168,15700173,15700186,15700189,15700201

I suspect that sound will be an issue, but the Yedang release is still alluring from an archaeological and esoteric perspective.  Any thoughts?

It reminds me of the large compilation that Brilliant Classics issued about ten years ago:

I can't speak of that box set, Peter, but I'm thrilled to see you posting again. What have you been listening to? I'm not sure how long you've been gone, but it had to be a couple of years.

Yes, that sounds about right.  Still, it doesn't feel that long and things don't change that much. After all, you are still online at this hour. How surprising...   ::)
My ears are mostly in the realm of the 19th/20th centuries lately with an urge to explore some Russian recordings (surprise) at this very moment. However, I'm in a Mahler phase at the moment attuning to #2, but Elgar, Strauss and Sibelius hover around the perimeter as usual. I am also having a minor opera obsession, but I have a serious crowding problem in my living room as the cds have taken over. Help! Help!

What mysterious alleys have you been wandering through, John? I suspect that you have similar "space" issues at this point in time since you had a rapid pace of accumulation in the past. Still enamored by the same composers?  :)
Hmm, perhaps this conversation should be living in a different thread?

PS! Some horrible connectivity tonight or is it just on my side? (*site can't be reached messages*)

Very good to hear that the same composers are always in circulation. I can also see how one could get locked into a Mahler phase. Have you spent much time with his Das Lied von der Erde? This is one of my absolute favorite works from him as it was a bit of a discovery a few years ago for me. What operas have you been exploring?

I seem to be entering into an American composer phase yet again: Copland, Barber, Ives, Schuman, Piston, Diamond, Hanson, etc. I'm not really having too bad of space problems right now as most of collection is down in storage in our basement. I'd like to get some shelves and properly sort out my collection, but I'm just too lazy to do it and it's difficult to do this without some help as these boxes will break your back if you try and pick them up. ;)

On JPC's website I noticed these bargains:

Various Handel oratorios on Naxos, 2 or 3 CD sets for 2.99€/3.99€ (less when ex-VAT).

This link is to the US Amazon, but the super-duper bargain is Amazon.de.  19.99 Euros.  I can't recommend it enough.

Peter, do you have this one yet?  If not, it's a no brainer.  I remember you really liked the DHM Telemann box, but this one is, IMHO, much better.
It's all good...

Same price on jpc.de, although I think amazon's international shipping may be slightly cheaper.

Hmm, it is in my Telemann pile, but it has avoided the cd player.  You have such a good memory, Al. It is kind of disturbing!   ;)
I definitely need to check it out! Definitely a great deal. Thanks for recommending it, Al!

I also think this is a great bargain. I have been enjoying this set quite a bit and it has dropped in price substantially over the last couple of months.

Price has been like that for a month or so, I think, and the same price is offered by JPC who do proper packaging, just in case:
https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/175th-anniversary/hnum/5086627

Bought it, despite having about half of it elsewhere (why did the put in so much Lenny when so much of his Columbia/NYPhil stuff is available elsewhere?).

Hmm, I think JPC overdo their packaging. At least I felt I was in a styrofoam snow storm every time I opened a box from them.
I completely agree with the Bernstein sentiment. After all he was only in charge for about ten years. It would seem like there should be some distribution of the recordings based on the number of years the conductors "served" at NYP.  I suspect most of us get this to access the recordings preceding Bernstein's tenure?  No wonder they had to drop the price on it. Wasn't it like $150 initially?

Well, about a third of the music items I get from amazon are damaged ... larger boxes with cuffed corners or torn open etc. I never buy really expensive stuff there anymore as returns are a nuisance  (for me they're international mail and cost so much  that a few times I convinced them that I better not return at all but trash ... i.e. returning a 50€ box may cost 30€ or more ... and I'd insist on getting reimbursed of course as the item was damaged because of lousy (no stuffing at all, usually) packaging and it's all totally not my fault ('xept for buying from those crooks)

True, an order from Amazon is a hit or miss in terms of dents/cracks or an occasional case of obliteration. At the same time I don't that JPC's approach is sustainable. Such an incredible amount of waste unless it gets reused or recycled. I hope they have changed to more sustainable materials than styrofoam. Still, like you said, they definitely make sure that the items are pristine upon arrival.  I just got an item from Amazon and it was severely dented affecting all the cd sleeves inside. This was the original box, i.e. not the shipping box, so the damage occurred before packaging. %&%*^*&Y^   At least the return policy here in the US is smooth sailing.  :)

I've heard it's not styrofoam, but a degradable product. Try putting a piece in your mouth. It'll melt like cotton candy.

Oh, they changed to starch pellets? That would be an excellent change!  :)
