The Haydn Fischer symphony set from Brilliant is available at a pretty good price of $59 or so at importcds. I've not seen it lower than this in USD, but with the holidays one never knows. Still, a pretty good price. Factoring in shipping, it will be roughly $63-65 depending on what else you buy (to the US).

I probably paid at least twice this price for the entire set and I had to get the different volumes at different time.  My sets are all original issues on Nimbus.

Found this for only £4.99 on amazon.co.uk! Does anyone know/recommend these performances? I am looking for another set of the Schumann symphonies to compliment my excellent Sawallisch, Zinman and Karajan sets, and the Gardiner looks rather expensive... ;)
Let me know! :) Thank you!

They are extremely good, and will be a nice contrast to Zinman's way with them. For a somewhat weighty take I find them preferable to Bernstein, FWIW. I prefer Karajan and Kubelik's more moderate concepts of the works overall, though.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

Thank you for your feedback. With your enthusiasm for the Sinopoli, I shall purchase this set. :)

For a complete edition, yes; but Daniel is looking for Gardiner's version of the symphonies. :)

Right.  :)

Yes perfect, even better than JPC, what should we do without you my friend. Thanks again for the Victoria tip off. Have the box and I am so happy with it.

For a 'complete' edition, perhaps; but Daniel is looking for Gardiner's version of the symphonies. :)
That's a good choice, maybe supplanting Mackerras.  I've heard the Gardiner recordings at least once each--good enough for me to buy the set but not compelling enough that I can't wait for a reduced-price box.

Did Mackerras record Schumann? Or are you talking about Brahms symphonies, perchance? :)

Ach!  My bad!  Excuse me while I wipe the egg off my face.... 8)

Has Gardiner recorded Schumann? If so, does he make them interesting and not just tolerable?  [Ducks and runs for cover.]

Yes, he has, but I've not heard them. Although the typical favourable comment goes something like, "He dispels the myth that Schumann was a bad orchestrator."
