I can recommend the Abe Symphony, the Copland/Aldridge concertos, the Buffalo Philharmonic Copland, the witty Dorman concertos, Kalomiris' Khachaturianesque "Triptych", Khachaturian's Cello Concerto, Otte if you like minimalist piano.

Excited Martinu's Piano Concertos 1, 2, and 4 are on the list - I wanted those - but sad they aren't offering the other half of the set.

Opus106

What were the prices? (I don't see anything below the mid-50s right now.)

WTH?! (Assuming you're referring to (what was) the Amazon price, and not those of singles at MDT.)

Yip, a marketplace seller had them priced at that. The fact that they were limited quantity makes me a little more hopeful that they might fulfil the orders as it's not like they're throwing away hundreds of them - perhaps wishful thinking, as I rarely see these mispriced boxes fulfiled.

I almost bit simply because of the price--but then I realized that I already have plenty of recordings of these works that I like very much and saw no point in buy more that would likely just languish unheard on the shelf.

That will certainly happen for the concertos box, but I'm greedy :'( Very intrigued by what I've heard of their symphonies cycle though :)

Live recordings from the '50s - on the face of it that could be very good indeed.

I recently mentioned getting the complete Haydn Fischer SYmphony set (about $65 I think). Well, I just noticed that for a few more dollars, you can get the Brilliant "Complete Symphonies" set from an Amazon MP for $76.50 (Fabulous CD). 100 CDs. Includes Haydn and whole lot more. Not a bad deal...

I ordered the symphonies and string quartets and have just received an email to say that both have been despatched. A total of just £8.68 (which includes delivery) for the pair. Grateful thanks Orpheus for the tip off.

They emailed me too! :P

I second this - you're a champ, as always, Orpheus! :)

I have also received notification today of all 3 sets shipping - for the grand total of £13.02, including shipping. Thank you so much for the tip-off. I can't wait to get these sets.

Best Wishes

Nicked it, thank you very much.  For me the deciding factor was that the Shostakovich cycle is Barshai's, which I was preparing to order for about $31.  Now I get that and all the rest.
And actually, out of all those 100 CDs, there only seems to be one CD I already have (Neumann/Leipzig Mahler 5).

The Haydn arrived today, so I can comfirm gzoop (Amazon UK) as a great seller - they even packaged it in bubblewrap and boxes.
