I guess it was too good to be true...

Well, now I might consider the Dutch de luxe edition after all!  8)

Also, I noticed that jpc is offering the complete psalms set for €60, which is not bad at all.

Yes true, I saw that too, but these books in the Luxe version are such a enrichment on the CD'S that I could not for the life of me resist. But they cost a bundle, that's undeniable.

Add me to that list - I am just furious with Amazon.  After all these weeks of waiting, all we get is disappointment.

I am considering jpc as well but I need to pick up something else to make the shipping cost to the US worthwhile.  Wonder if there are other bargain boxes worth buying?

I've noticed that Amazon seems to be "temporarily out of stock" on a lot of new releases--either they're getting their allotments later than other vendors, or they wait to order,  even when they know they have x number of pre-release orders.

At any rate,  the real reason for this post is to let y'all know that the HarmoniaMundi online store (at least in the US) is offering a 20 percent discount on orders through May 29.  Use the coupon code "Memorial".  It's not really super duper cheap, but I don't know of a better thread to post this in.   If you use it,  you'll need to look around and do price comparisons.  But you can order Hyperion, Channel Classics, LSO Live,  the San Francisco Orchestra's own label, and some other smaller labels (plus jazz, world and other non classical stuff).  The price differential may be fairly small, even with the extra percent off--I probably saved only a dollar ordering the new Hamelin Haydn double CD, and only when you calculate in shipping costs,  sales tax or lack thereof, and lack of foreign transaction fees. (I was going to order it from Prestoclassical.)   Apparently shipping in the US via regular USPS is free (the option I chose, of course), or you can choose UPS, but that would probably wipe out the savings.   And unlike Barnes and Noble and Arkivmusic,  I didn't have to pay Florida sales tax.  But depending on what you want,  it might be worthwhile.

I ran into this with Aho's new chamber music BIS CD.  amazon listed the release date as 15 May at which time it was unknown when it would be in stock.  I emailed BIS, got a response from von Bahr and almost immediately more responses from Qualiton.  Turns out Qualiton releases ALL of their new inventory the last Tuesday of the month.  amazon screwed up and Qualiton sold it to me for a better price.  But amazon does seem to have problems keeping BIS on hand most of the time.  And Alba, if you want it you better get it when you see it.

My most recent waiting-for-Amazon was a Naive recording (the latest in their Vivaldi series), and of course the Dvorak set that some of us are still waiting for, it seems.  And waiting.  And waiting.  (See AnthonyAthletic's post.)   I've already decided that any new releases I order from Arkivmusic or Prestoclassical--in terms of combining reliability of shipment and price, they seem to be much better than Amazon.

Well, thanks to Discobole (or Discophage, as he goes by in his blog), we now know that the prices of a lot of boxes have been slashed at Amazon ES. Warner/Erato, EMI, and those German Decca boxes are something to look out for. For instance: you can get the latter two of Alain's Bach organ sets together for about $45.

Deep Discount (free shipping in US) is having a nice sale on some labels in their 25% off sale for summer. Labels include Simax, Audite, CPO, Tudor, Chandos, Naxos, Profil, Brilliant, and others. For those who are looking for the Raff Symphonies box (below), it is the cheapest I have ever seen it in two years of searching ($54).

And because it is hard to find, here is the link: http://www.deepdiscount.com/cd/Symphonies-812973016007

A few other examples:
Strauss II box Naxos ($80)
Haydn Scottish and Welsh Songs ($45)
Mahler Bernstein DG ($35)
Contemporaries of Mozart Box, 5CD ($20)
Elgar Caractacus Hickox ($20 - never seen this one so low)

I'm waiting, too. They keep asking if I want to cancel. Yet I see they still have it listed on their site for a ridiculously low price.

Amazon is usually hard to beat for availability, price, and shipping speed. I'm a prime member and get most things in one to two days. But a quality 8 disc box set for less than $1 per disc is an unusual offer so I'm not surprised by problems with it. Presto has it for $46 and Arkiv for $54 -- still decent prices, but not the sort of "steal" we usually cackle over on this thread. ;)

About $30, shipping incl. at Amazon UK.

Importcds.com has the lowest price on the BIG Rubinstein box, and a ten percent discount to boot, which brings it to a little over $200. That is dirt cheap for 142 CDs, 2 DVDs and a hardback book. I just got mine in the mail. Amazing!
