Re:Neumann Dvořák Box

The saga continues.  Yesterday it was up to $60.00 and available in 7-12 days.  Today it's gone completely from in house availability.  I still have two orders outstanding and they are still in the 'we will email you' status.  I thought when orders placed the 21 Apr started shipping that I was going to get mine soon.  Any thoughts?

You will most likely get an "order cancelation" email at some point.  This story has been repeated many times ...

Amazon doesn't even have it any more.

Amazon UK still has the Neumann Dvorak box, and although not at the give away prices we saw at Amazon US, at £18 it's still a heck of a bargain. And it's still 'in stock'. See here:

Don't think about it. If it comes through, it comes; if not, not.

That silly price was on for at least two weeks, who knows how many orders were placed: hundreds? thousands? Box reached number one in sales of classical music and something like top 20 in all music. Even if amazon decides to honor all orders (it seems they have so far) who knows at what rate can Supraphon supply that kind of numbers. I'm sure they haven't planned these kind of sales.

So, best thing if you have an open order just leave it standing, and think about something else. If it comes it comes.

What are the odds of a super-budget reissue of the Philips complete Mozart (1991)? Can anyone made an informed guess?

Bits of it have come out as bargain-ish boxes - the operas, for example, have been re-issued as a set and I am certain they are the same as the Phillips edition:

[asin]B001TH28EY[/asin]

and the piano concertos have come out as:

[asin]B004I4HCTG[/asin]

But for some of the other stuff, the only option is to hunt down the 2000 reissue - the compact edition - in which the 1991 boxes were combined into a smaller number of larger sets.  Wikipedia has a page which matches the two:

Indeed, given the state of the Hungarian economy, Supraphon would want to maximize its cash flows by releasing these big boxes.  Will Hungaroton be far behind?

And in the meantime, the Neumann set saga finally prompted me to say, "The hell with it!" and pull the trigger on Rowicki's set, which is proving to be as good as Sarge has long claimed.

Excellent  8)   I do like Neumann, too, but Rowicki is still my main man for the first five. And no one has done the overtures better.

My Neumann Dvorak box has apparently just been dispatched, one of the $7-99 ones, so they are still sending some out.

What was your order date.  The last one filled before yours was 21 April.  I still have two coming from 24 Apr and 5 May.

There are two important lessons to take away from the Neumann Dvorak episode: 1.) If a crazy bargain pops up, buy immediately; 2.) Buy more than one copy.

I did the first, but not the second.  Had I bought an additional, say, five copies, I could now sell them for a profit.  Wait a few more months, and it would be more profitable yet.

My Dvorak, ordered late April, shipped. My second, ordered early May, has been delayed.
