postage cost Harmonia Mundi £5.50

And I had to pay only 3.58? ??? Or is it with UK VAT added to the shipping? (Incidentally, I received shipment notification yesterday.)

Anyway, thanks for the description of the box. This is the second time in two years I'm ripping HM off. ;D :-[ Last year, it was the Manze and O'Dette sets, for which I paid something like $12-$13 each. I love the sturdy box (comparatively speaking) and the thick booklet with complete notes for all the CDs in each box and full-page (as small as that might be) recreations of paintings and such.

Navneeth

Re:Dvorak Symphonic Works box set saga.

Yesterday I also received the cancelation notification.

Today, the set is on hand at amazon for $61.50.

Talk about deceptive practises.  Everyone that had an order should send them an email demanding that their order be honored and filled.

Dan
I never understand these sorts of comments. It is clear the low price was a mistake. Nevertheless, they have honored many of the orders (far more than I would have expected). They could have cancelled all of them, but didn't do that. Most here who bought one knew the price was wrong and said nothing (or pehaps they will claim ignorance, which is no defense). When they ran out of product, they cancelled the order (something every company on earth does). A deceptive practice would be showing one price on the product page and then somehow showing anther price at checkout. There was nothing deceptive here (especially as everyone knew it was out of stock when purchased and that there was a chance it wouldn't arrive).
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

On the Dvorak. I ordered one in April, and it arrived. I also ordered one in May and it got cancelled. So they clearly filled them FCFS.

I got the HM Lumieres box (my second) from HM via Amazon.uk in days. Amazing.

My Dvorak and Enlightenment boxes arrived today too. I also got the complete Callas studio recordings box that I found for $45 new with an Amazon third party seller. Lots of great music to listen to!

I just checked. That box set is shown as available from marketplace sellers for a variety of prices, but not from Amazon. Perhaps you were looking at the older edition instead of the one in question?

Good catch, Dave!  Some years ago I wish-listed that older edition, when it hovered at about that price.  Over time, I decided I was not quite interested to explore the set to the degree of that expense.

. . . which is why I leapt at the improbably low April price . . . .

The booklet to the Dvorak set pictures three more boxes... String Quartets, Chamber Works and Piano Works. Have those been released yet?

Indeed they have. And they are also excellent. Strongly recommended. :)

Another very tempting offer - thank you.  Perhaps not meriting quite such serious consideration is the "collectible" copy, also on Amazon UK, for a mere £2022.20 - plus £1.26 delivery, which when you think about it is quite a reasonable rate for teleporting this set from Jupiter, or whichever planet the seller is on.

£53.35 for the Ross set is very nice, indeed.  I paid a bit more than that (nor do I begrudge it) for a Used - Like New copy.

I'd jump at the Ross Scarlatti but I already have the Brilliant Belder set which I've yet to listen all the way through.

Got the Scarlatti, thanks. Have been after it for a few years - the only nagging doubt comes from the fact that it was available (according to Pricenoia) for €20 less on Amazon.es a few days back...

My box just arrived.  Postage from London to NYC was GBP15.98.  I paid GBP3.08 for postage. Quite a deal.

From amazon.com, re. the Neumann set ordered in April:

I had the Rowicki set for $19 in my cart when this one popped up for $6. Seemed a no-brainer to order this one instead. After a month of waiting, I ordered Rowicki, then up to $24. The Rowicki seems likely to become my favorite set, v Kubelik & Kertesz. Can't compare it with Newmann's set, though.  ;)

I have every set except the Rowicki and Suitner.  I even have the digital Neumann and now the analog Neumann.  Neumann's strength is in how he brings the inner voices to each of the symphonies, each section having something special to say.  Anyway, hard to say what is best, but I really like individual performances of these symphonies and no set does justice to all of them.

All we need now is someone to invent the 36 hour day to listen to all of the wonderful CD bargains around.  The Neumann Dvorak arrived safely and is as yet un-opened, The Scott Ross Scarlatti is ordered (have been thinking about buying that for so long), the Lumieres box came days ago and some have been played.  It makes me wonder why anyone would bother with downloads when it seems complicated, may well perform at a lower quality level than CD unless you are always watching out for what the computer is doing, is almost bound to go wrong with the likelihood of losing a chunk of your collection at some time.  Obviously CDs will eventually stop being made but we'll all have so many by then that we should always be able to find something suitable to listen to.

My feelings exactly.
