Quote from: gilfachphil on June 22, 2012, 12:12:21 AMIt makes me wonder why anyone would bother with downloads when it seems complicated, may well perform at a lower quality level than CD unless you are always watching out for what the computer is doing, is almost bound to go wrong with the likelihood of losing a chunk of your collection at some time.

For me with downloads, the issues are when
(a) the downloading website malfunctions (several of my albums have missing tracks)
(b) my computer's hard drive dies (but I have a backup)

For me with CDs, the issue is that I'm very poor, I live in a single room, and I have already resorted to putting overflow CDs into my dresser. I simply have no place for them.

I'm thinking this is another pricing blunder like the Sweelinck - they may as well give it away for free

Wow. I like Buchbinder's cycle--it's pretty straightforward and very well played. Considering all the folks who jumped on Lim's cycle, I would expect a mad rush for this one! (Although Buchbinder falls a bit short of Ms Lim in the pulchritude dept.)

1) At the moment at least, it won't let me order it,  only sign up to get an email when it's in stock.
2) And it's not in stock because it's described as having a release date this coming August.

available via amazon.uk now, higher price but still, for 9 discs, inexpensive.  And I've found shipping from uk sources usually rated at single disc rate even for sets

Thanks. In that case, it's a bargain indeed.

The Scarlatti arrived. On first hearing alone, I'd be willing to say that it's a bargain even at full price. If anyone is on the fence, don't be!

Ross is MUCH better than Belder. I think he plays a lot better but Belder has some strangely woolly sound on some of the discs too, especially on the piano-forte. For those who don't need that much Scarlatti, Staier is fabulous.

I have 3 (IIRC) of Staier's Scarlatti, wish he had done more. My favorites of <>10 different players.
