I love theatrical reviews that delve into a production and offer more insight than "the tenor sweats a lot but the soprano has a creamy sweet voice and the orchestra hit most of the right notes." (What was it Hitchcock said? Actors are cattle?)

I especially love reviews as witty and pithy as this:
QuoteThis ersatz world is inhabited exclusively by dysfunctional families drawn from burlesque, cinema, and television stereotypes. Valhalla houses a gangster clan. Wotan is a henpecked husband who fusses with garden gnomes in his backyard. Siegmund and Sieglinde are an alienated couple in the kitchen. Gunther and Gutrune are deluded bourgeois surrounded by beer-drinking, white-collar workers. The Valkyries are trashy tarts strutting their stuff on the sidewalk. Siegfried is a greasy teenager who escapes his masturbating stepdad in order to slay a criminal kingpin cum dragon and then encounters Brünnhilde in a bourgeois boudoir. Even the most heroic characters become sordid, with Wotan uniformly treated as a vicious tyrant. Whatever their role in the drama, Gods, dwarves, and men sport shiny suits, track clothes, leather jackets, cheap dresses, and grimy T-shirts. Only the odor of stale cigarettes is missing.

This remarkable consistency of vision should put us on our guard.

Of course the article in question is no more a review than Moby Dick is a story about a whale.  ;)

Mahler 3rd Haitink

Wouldn't pay the UK price of £35.02p (how shocking is that for a 2cd issue)!!!, the USA price of £2.71p is much nicer  ;)

this weeks amazon.es price cock up is barenboim's beethoven music for all deluxe edition for 17.59 euro... same price as the philips and mozart 111 which were both cancelled.  So a very low chance it will ever ship but thought I would share for those willing to try.

Opus106

Perhaps slightly more believable deals:

Segerstam's Sibelius ~12
8 CDs of Sinoploi conducting music from the Second Viennese School ~16

I ordered it for 2$. Ended up paying almost 7$ in s&h, so I consider I bought it for 9$. Still a good deal, but not a steal.

I've had too many cancellations from them. I've given up on them until they get their ship in order.

Thank you.  The same seller has reduced some other boxes such Thielemanns Beethoven, the Secret Labyrinth box and others all at the same 14.50 price.

The same item was listed by the same seller for a comparable price on amazon.com.  But it said only 3 available.

Hard to resist because of the steep discount, but do I really need it?   I put it in my shopping cart and decided to order it later.  The strategy worked.  By the time I looked again it was gone.  :)

I really need your self control.  ;D  I noticed a few things disappearing while I ummed and ahhed which spurred me to click.

or £15.31 on amazon.co.uk - pity it has to include Shankar's 2 sitar concertos, although still enough "real" Indian classical music to make it seriously tempting, thank you.  Now a 10CD Vilayat Khan edition at that price would be really worth having...

Here is a potentially good bargain. The Massenet Edition is 59.99 at Barnes and Noble. BUT, if you have the coupon they sent you by email (perhaps only for members), you can get 20-50% more off. EVen 20% brings it to 47.99, which is a better price by far than I have seen elsewhere. This excludes shipping (free over $25 I think) and taxes.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!
