The lone Amazon reviewer mentions defective discs, though. Keep us posted as to your findings, if you would be so kind. :)

Will do. I always rip as soon as I get a box, so I know immediately. The only time I've found a bad disk is in the Brilliant Mozart set, but it was PC17, which I had in the exact same performance on another Brilliant Classics set of misc piano concertos.

That Webern Boulez box is something I could live without, even if I lived to be 1000 years old.

Bigshot,
Do you keep your sets after transferring the data or do you sell them?

I box them up and put them in storage. Just got the Bernstein box. It's HUGE. Going to need more storage!

Hmm, yes, LP size boxes are kind of awkward.....
Interesting that Bernstein in particular has been affected by the format (three for now)?

Everyone has theirs but MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Actually I have no idea what to about space. Some need to go into the basement. Or be sold. I ran out a while ago.

I am waiting too...   :'( :'(. Patience, patience, fellow sufferer!
And, yes, space is an issue. I need more walls. Bigshot got it figured out, but I like too hold my cds/booklets. Weird, eh? Right now everything is stacked in double rows which is a real pain. Perhaps I can build a new wall in the middle of the living room?  ::)

That's a terrible idea. You'll have to tear it down later to make room for the industrial shelving.

I used to have steel gorilla racks on every wall. It wasn't good for the acoustics.

Great news, by the way... I got a new external blu-ray burner and it rips CDs MUCH faster than my old DVD burner!

I love my Webern Boulez box. :)

I have never come across these boxes before  :o  even though they were released back in 2011 and 2012. Both of them seem to have excellent and interesting compilations (performers and renditions) although there are some obscure ones. Beethoven features the Bernstein NYP cycle, the Budapest doing the string quartets among other things. Some really nice "classic" recordings in the Mozart box (Tipo/Chailly interest me; nice touch with Lili Kraus performing the sonatas (the 60s recordings? ;))) with Szell, Casadesus, Ormandy, Jochum, Kubelik etc. Too bad they went skimpy with the operas and just went for "highlights".  >:(
In terms of the format reviews on Amazon.it indicate that there a number of clamshells within the main box, cds compile 4-6 in plastic cases and overall bulky, bulky, bulky.  The same reviewer states that no documentation is included.
Perfect for somebody that is just starting to dive into Beethoven and Mozart's music or for GMG completists. Some nice historical recordings though.....    >:D

I realized that I love the word Capolavori!  CAPOLAVORI!!!!!     :)

Yep got the Beethoven one some time back from Amazon. It - a decent value box
The other Sony box (60cd) wins in my view though for performances

I also love the word capolavori! Pity about the bulky boxes; still it could be a cheap way to get some of these recordings. The Mozart box may be the easiest way to get the Kraus recordings (unless one wants to spring for the complet Kraus box) and there are a few elusive recordings included; I think the Szell/Druian violin sonatas (4, not all) may have never been out on CD?

The new Kraus box has her 1950s recordings (great box!!! - listening to the violin sonatas at the moment - gorgeous). I do not know which piano sonatas that reside in the bargain box as Kraus recorded in the 60s as well (if I recall the Kraus discography correctly...)

ha ha! ('merikins really should learn some languages, methinks!)

must be the second cycle of the string quartets by the Budapest gang in the Ludwig van box, I assume?
how are Buchbinder's piano sonatas?

It's probably the stereo Budapest cycle. I doubt that the Buchbinder sonatas could his most recent recording because this appeared only in 2012? His earlier sonatas were on Teldec (I have heard one disc a long time ago and was not all that impressed, the more recent live recordings were praised a lot, but I have not heard them).
