I clearly remember, last year, Amazon.fr going back on a bargain of the Erato Messiaen set at 15 euros, saying that they would lose money selling at such a low price, and, furthermore, that it was not permitted by law, or words to that effect. So far, the UK branch has been more reliable, but I remain skeptical.

  And a glorious monster it is!!  I love the HIP approach, everything is as it should be.  I have had the pleasure of hearing 75% of it and it is as I said GLORIOUS!!!  Raw, earnest, none of this "ROMANTICIZED" Bach on the piano non-sense.......just PERFECT!

   Actually, just today I took 1K worth of lenses to a camera shop to be sold on consignment (one was my xmas gift to myself), so I guess I deserve it. The price really is super bargain worthy, but I have been so good for so long...

Well, I managed to be good even though I was attracted to the Gould box. Hopefully the sale won't last long.   You really can't go wrong with the Wiener Phil box. It is packed with excellent recordings (of warhorses, but still a great journey). Nice choice!   

I noticed that many of the items already changed in price. Good thing I logged out of Amazon.it early last night...  0:)

  I did, Peter, I did! 49 Euros after the VAT was taken off. I went ahead and got the Argerich box 3 (of the DG series) too, which I've been eyeing for ages.  Hopefully this will keep me satisfied for the next 4 months

Not quite super-duper size-wise (8 cds), but well worth mentioning:  Kondrashin's incomplete Mahler set (Symphonies 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 9) with the Moscow Philharmonic and Leningrad Philharmonic on Melodiya was just listed at BRO for $23.92 (plus BRO's usual shipping & handling charge, which will bring your cost up to at least $30 or thereabouts).  By contrast,  it's currently going for a steep $88 (used) or a whopping $599.99 (new) at Amazon.
