So you were going to buy it!  >:D

Actually, it was the SEON box I put in my cart.  90 Euros! But with S&H ended up to $130US.  Same as at my local shop >:(

I've pretty much kicked the CDCDCD, but I'm not stupid. When great music approaches $1 a disc (or better), I'll pounce 8)
It's all good...

I was planning on living vicariously through you ...  >:D

I'm not sure I'm cured, but I have so damned much I haven't played even once yet it's crazy. So it is in remission.
That said, like you I'm not stupid.  I just have very strict standards of SDCBness now.

Resist, you must resist. If you own 99% of the box set already (i. e. the recordings you previously bought), then wouldn't you agree that it wouldn't make much sense to be buying so many duplicates just in order to own that 1%?
By just counting discs I have only 7 or so (some of the Scherchen and the Mendelssohn Octet). The problem is that I am quite interested in a few of the remaining ones, like the Petri Beethoven sonatas, the early Amadeus and Smetana and some more chamber recordings. But there are probably also 15 or more discs where I care neither for the music nor (probably) the interpretation and other where my interest is but slight. I will certainly wait another few weeks, if the cheap offer remains, we'll see...
(So far I managed to buy no discs at all since the beginning of Lent, with one exception)

No need to explain yourself to me, my friend. Like many members here, I suffer from a case of CDCDCD. I'm currently waiting for a refill in my medication for this truly debilitating disease. :)

On JPC there is an sale of the Alba label, currently 9.99 euros a piece. Much of their catalogue is on sale, which does not happen that often. So I would say profit from it. And remember these sales on JPC are over before you know it, without warning. So do not linger, order. Free postage this weekend.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

This is 59Euros (before VAT is subtracted!) at Amazon.de

It won't ship for 6 weeks or so, so lots of time for me to potentially change my mind...

aDe is doing another run of (potentially) crazy sales running up to easter:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/browse.html/ref=pe_1610411_66567141_pe_hero/?ie=UTF8&node=509860

so far, offers such as the Gardiner Archiv Bach box for 20€ (as of this moment, 100% reserved, but if people fail to check out in time, it might be worth watching ... if the pre x-mas sales are any indication, it might come up again anyway), the Sony Verdi Great Operas for 27€ and some other stuff coming up (the the recent Sokolow, the Janowski Ring, the Abbado RCA/Sony, DG's Bach Masterworks cube box ...

nothing I really need there (have the Verdi, Abbado and Janowski Ring boxes), but I went for Bartoli's "St. Petersburg", the limited edition, for 9€ in the morning.

Thanks! Just snagged the complete Dowland, Brilliant Handel harpsichord, and Brilliant Lute Awake! boxes.

Can someone explain how this works? Even after translating the labels to English, I'm confused; the Dowland box, for example, does not appear in the expired offers, but the Gardiner box does. Am I viewing them incorrectly?

None of those are part of the sale I linked to ... but there are other offers going on (Brilliant boxes are often very cheap on European Amazon sites). The actual sale doesn't look nearly as good as the one before christmas, but still, if anyone wants any of the big boxes on offer, it might be attractive (the Bach Gardiner went for 20€, for instance).

The Janowski Ring is 26€ right now:
http://www.amazon.de/dp/B009EJSV2C/ref=gb1h_img_m-2_6127_f988cbd5?smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=0HJBKVJ4P2FV49PW56CV&pf_rd_i=509860&pf_rd_p=595546127

The offers are good for a few hours only, after that, price goes back to normal (usually the reduction is in the 30-50% range, it seems). There is also a limited number of each item available - that is reflected by "..% reserviert" (meaning "..% reserved"). If you put it in your basked and don't check out within 15 minutes, you lose your reservation - and like that, items might become available even if they show "100% reserviert" at some point in time.

EDIT: the upcoming items of most interest:
- Claudio Abbado - The Complete RCA and Sony Recordings (3 p.m. CET, 3 hrs and 42 from this post's time)
- Bach Masterworks DG box (3:30 p.m.)
- 100 Große Symphonien (100 Great Symphonies) DG box (tomorrow, 10 a.m.)
- DG All Baroque box (tomorrow, 10 a.m.)

Just grabbed this for £14.66 on the Amazon Germany 'knock down', a good deal when comparing the UK price.

Can anyone, who has this set tell me if its a clamshell with paper sleeves (space saver) or is it a slipcase with jewel cases?

I am not sure (maybe I have an earlier incarnation) but my Sanderling set has five old-fashioned separate jewel cases in a cardboard slipcase. So no space saver but if you dislike one of the discs you could in principle gift it away.

Cheers, I expect it to be jewel cases as I have the Sanderling Sibelius which is slipcase/jewels too, on the same label.

I got a new copy in December: 5 jewel boxes in a slipcase. I got a pretty good deal on it, but you have done even better.

I thought carpe diem stood for CD - or rather the other way round - making that 'c' in cdiem superfluous.
