This was a very useful thread for me while the Aussie dollar was at parity with the greenback but not so any more. However I can still read and just wish I suppose

It does not make so much sense to include ebay and amazon third party sellers because those bargains will usually only be for the first to take advantage of them.
Obviously this does not apply to downloads and I think it is reasonable to include them in this thread here. I usally do not care for them (they'd have to be really cheap) and the bargains are usually restricted to people with a US address anyway, so it's just an evil tease for me if the 3.99 US bargain costs EUR 29.99 at .de.

That is not true! I usually find better deals at Amazon.de and other European vendors (compared to Amazon.us).   0:)

The thread should include any bargains worth noting anywhere. We have members all over. And Moonfish is right. Sometimes a foreign Amazon has great prices. I get a lot from the UK. Once from Japan.

No! This thread should only be for arguing about what is allowed in this thread.

We have indeed had the downloads discussion before. A download bargains thread was started back then but people don't seem to use it: I guess it dropped off the "most recently updated" list some time back.

As before, would vote downloads be left out of this thread - no interest in them here, so the filter is useful. I don't want to check needlessly when the thread is updated with a download.

By the same logic, I'm not interested in opera, so I vote opera be left out of this thread. I don't want to check needlessly when the thread is updated with an opera.

Well, as I said earlier, this is the most useful thread on the site for non-members. I read it avidly for over a year before joining. I think we should let them decide.

Perhaps we can simply keep in mind the fact that while a download may be supercheap compared to physical media it is not necessarily cheap compared to other downloads....and post only downloads that meet the second criteria.  And for the sake of keeping confusion at bay,  state that the bargain being posted is a download.

flyingdutchman

As I said before, I don't want to come here and find downloads as some "bargain."  They aren't bargains when compared to physical discs and that is why I come here anyway.  So, no to downloads

Although that is eloquent, and your carefully assembled and supported points are well argued, it seems you missed the last day of comments.  The struggle is over, and, sorry to say, your view failed to triumph :(

I don't do downloads - but I don't understand the problem. Clikcking on this thread and discovering that it's a download that's posted wastes a second of my time. If I didn't have time to waste, I wouldn't be on the Internet......

:D

If I remember correctly,  I was pressured some time ago to undo a merger of the two threads.
We now know that the separate bargain downloads thread is not being used.....

Personally I am not interested in downloads, but do recognise that the number of people that do is rapidly expanding.  I have no objection of download bargains being posted here, as long as they are bargains.

There are frequently posts here that do not appeal to my personal interests - like on any thread of more a general nature.

Welcome back! :) My apologies if I didn't notice your return before.

Wanderer

Since there indeed are two separate threads, one for physical media and one for download bargains, I see absolutely no reason why either thread should be hijacked by posts belonging to the other. Both should be "stickied" side by side and we'd be done with this whole ridiculous non-issue.

I tip my hat to you, Sir, and plunge back into my search for bargains.

FWIW I rather have the CD'S and downloads separately. I strongly sympathize with Wanderer's view on this issue. And yes, I am one of the old boys, that doesn't do downloads.
