Based on cursory listening so far, I'd say it's good but not great, worth investigating but not rushing to the store for.

The PAN CD is quite good. The piano concerti I have is boring. Based on the 2 CDs I have of this composer (and a few works in other compilation CDs) I am not planning to explore further. He is obviously a very good composer, but there are so many good (and better?) Finnish composers I want to eplore more.

I do.

There's some good stuff on it from his more modernist phase (the Ten Pieces for Orchestra) is probably the standout, but the later pieces tend to be more academic and less interesting. It's definitely worth exploring, though I've not been tempted to get any other Merikanto since.
