I loved the thread from early December about new music you listened to during the last year, so I thought I would start a thread to keep track of new acquisitions of 08. Post music you have listened to and enjoyed multiple times.

A few hours after midnight I became obsessed with this one:
Brahms op 120 #2

For clarity, you might add the year to the subject-header.

Or not . . . .

Strictly speaking, the only music I've listened to this new year, which was entirely new to me, was the Gran Duo and Chorale from the Magnus Lindberg disc that Santa brought;  great stuff!

I listened yesterday, for only the second time, to another disc that Santa fetched in, with Kalevi Aho's Clarinet Concerto.  Overall, does not impress me so much as the Lindberg Concerto, but there is much that I find to like through the middle of the piece.

Well, and now that the Chandos box is delivered, this week's new listening will be the Symphonies Nos. 1-4 of Martinů.  (I will also enjoy listening to the Fifth and Sixth, but those are works of which my ears have already broken the seal, so to speak.)

The First is proving a most excellent start!

Karl,

I had picked up a Martinů disc a few years ago from the library and only a few weeks ago did I listen for the first time. I was astounded by the deftness of the first symphony! Marvelous stuff.

anyway

I've been discovering Golijov these first few days of 2008, as he will be coming to OSU for the contemporary music festival and I will be meeting him. I am particularly interested in seeing what OSU will play for his arrival and for his concert with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
