The new erato

32 - Shostakovich 1 -which is the one I really meant, just a slip. From the Nocturne.

Maciek

Nice quiz! Pity I noticed it so late... ::)

No. 6 sounds like something Schnittke could have written. But I don't know his VCs all that well... I'd be willing to try guessing the number though - if I have the composer correct. ;D

I know 21 and 28 very well. Just can't for the life of me remember what they are. >:( Manuel, you're such a tease! ;D

Having Lipinski's and Karlowicz's concertos as favs only mean one thing: you guys should stop hanging out with Maciek.  ;D

Hey, you're the one who put Karlowicz up! >:D (Good choice, BTW ;D)

And I'm sure you'll understand Johan's enthusiasm once you've heard some Lipinski!

28 - Saint-Saens 3rd

ARGH! That almost killed me! I wonder if I'll ever manage to get no. 21...

Schnittke indeed.

Maciek

Ha! VC No. 4, 2nd mvt: Vivo.

Now I just need to remember 21: I have a portion much larger than that clip running a loop in my head like mad but can't for the life of me remember what it is. AAAAAAAAAAAAA! Will I get any sleep tonight?

Guido

So number six is Schnittke? I am desperate to learn what it is.
Geologist.

The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away

22-Lalo; Symphonie Espagnole ?

That's the mistake I made when labeling. 22b should actually be 21b. And yes, they are from the Symphonie Espagnole. From the famous Joshua Bell/Charles Dutoit on DG.

The clip named 22.mp3 is from a different work.

2- Wieniawski?

No. He was very close the Baltic Sea. He had a powerful mythologic name.

Quote from: ManuelHe was from other part of Europe. Violinist and conductor; for some time he was the first violin in one of the most important orchestras in his country. He also founded a quartet, named after himself.

Maciek

Darn! I ruled out the Lalo straight off because it doesn't have "Violin Concerto" as title. ::)

Quote from: ManuelEach number 01, 02, 03, etc. is a violin concerto (or a work for violin and orchestra which does not qualify for the concerto label).

Hey, that was three pages ago! ;D

Don't worry, there could be other Lalo work to be discovered.  :-X

You mean Decca (rather than DG)

I think we need hints. Lots of stuff here that sounds vaguely familiar, but diifciult to place exactly; partly since many clips are from the middle of movements. I spent Saturday listening to both Szymanovksi concertos, both Prokofiev, Bernsteins Serenade (lovely work), Khatchaturian and Glazunov and I can swear that some of these must be here, but to place them exactly is VERY hard. Khatchaturian is here I swear.....somewhere.

I can upload the files to rapidshare if you want, and give me some time.

That would be fantastic. Is the format mp3? I am not that familiar with converting files into other formats so mp3 would be appreciated.
And it looks like jut the tough ones are left, he? Is any 20th century left to discover? (The music from the time before I don't know).
