Uffe, you must check out the emoticon thread in the diner, but wait - remember, I did not see this post prior to my post on that thread.  ;D

From one of the (I think) last posts of his, did this have anything to do with the banishing?

http://www.good-music-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,12232.msg362907.html#msg362907

He was really not nice to Sarge there...

Agreed.

But it was far from being one his most insulting and rude posts.

In case he does come back here, the best way for you to avoid getting angered is to scroll past his posts. It's as simple as an index finger on the scroll bar!  ;D

Exactly.

Which is one reason why I never, ever complain of, report or wish the banishment of any member because, and it may be stating the bleeding obvious, you can always ignore them.

It needs to be said.

Ever notice in high school that the bullies weren't mean when others weren't around? I think there's something similar with M.

ofc they weren't bullying when other weren't around. Logical....they have to show others how superior they are to others even if they are mentally unstable and abrupt. I haven't read much of M's posts but if he is similar to bullies then there is nothing good about him. Just ignorance...

Bogey

May have been already mentioned, but has anyone heard from KevinP (pipe avatar) or Dana (Bing Crosby avatar)?

That's where you will find Nigel Wilkinson:

While I do miss Larry, etc. (not all of those missing nowadays, of course), Nigel is the one I miss the most. But all in all, I think the forum is good enough to be fine without any specific members.

Larry I do miss not, Nigel was always fun, until he turned against me, and in general I think the site is doing well enough without specific members, as Paul said.

My view is that it's best left to the individual to decide whether to return to a Forum, and not to be subject to any kind of appeal to return by still current colleagues.  I can think of at least four categories:

1.  Some former members might have fitted in very well at the time of their earlier involvement due to a set of favourable circumstances, but those circumstances may no longer be applicable should they return some time later.  I can think of several cases elsewhere (I won't mention specific details) where former shining lights of a forum left for several months and then returned but only to find that the whole scene had shifted in terms of emphasis of subjects, age structure of membership, and knowledge levels of other participants. Invariably those returning individuals didn't re-settle and their return was short-lived.

2.  Some people can become very much enamoured of music Boards and their close involvement becomes an important part of their life, more so than these people may have let on or been apparent to their colleages.  For some of these individuals, after a while they begin to realise that they're going often round in circles, repeating what they've said before, and generally not learning much that can't be more reliably learned from other sources.  In other words, they get bored and find other outlets for their spare time.

3.  Another category comprises the rather sad loner who may appear only slightly unhinged whilst babbling away on here, but who suddenly needs hospitalisation for psychiactric treatment.  I would say there are clearly one or two in that category on this Forum from my observations.

4.  Yet others may realise, after a while, that they really know virtually damn all about music when it comes to brass tacks, and can't compete with the few professionals here, and rather than risk exposing their true ignorance they quit whilst the going is good.

Care to name names, or do you prefer to proceed by innuendo and backstabbing?
