Asked Rabin Fan to help me purchase this album after reading this review:

Now the Tchaik 4 is simply scorching. Best introduction I've heard - period. I've rarely listened to Czech PO and I though their horn section is simply outstanding. Recording sound is quite top-notch as well since I feel like I'm in a real live concert. The engineering and balances were almost perfect.

The Emperor is also fine, with the moving Adagio is simply sublime. I heard Bohm rehearses the Adagio quite thoroughly compared with the other movements. The only disappointment was the engineering which wasn't up par as the Tchaik 4. Orchestra sounded a bit distant and especially the pianissimo passages made the difference even more glaring. But overall superb purchase.

Glad you liked it, Corgan. My favourite symphony is Tchaikovsky 5 (of the 6 and Manfred). Did you ever hear the Mravinsky 4 to 6 set? As well as the Karajan BPO DG videos of 4 to 6 - amazing stuff.

I listened to a Leningrad PO set which has Sanderling conduct 4th and Mravinsky 5 & 6. No doubt those were good. Watched Karajan Tchaik 5/VPO on video. Not my favorite but pretty fine. Fricsay still owns the symphony IMHO.
