I have the Golden on on vinyl, but for 6 bones it was nice to have the cd.

Thanks for that good chuckle!  A phrase I will use henceforth.

Kevin Ayers: THE HARVEST YEARS 1969-1974 (EMI, 5cd)

Prompted by the prominent use of his song "Decadence" in Olivier Assayas' last movie, and the subsequent realization that I no longer owned any of his records.

THIS is the greatest book ever. Period. If you have any interest in art, photography, history, architecture, or great writing you must buy this book. I often spend time late at night marveling over the images as well as the endlessly luminous and profound text by Szarkowski. As a lifelong photographer, I would say that one could spend a lifetime studying the examples found in here, and still continue to discover new and wondrful things. I think Atget is one of the most underappreciated artists of any kind, and it's a shame that his work is little known except to serious students of photography, art, and French history. If you pay attention, you will never see the world the same way again.

You're familiar with it, or just in awe of the modest praise, Karl? ;)

Good set that, though one can become slightly weary of Cohen's melancolic musings.

I am a great fan of Steely Dan so I ordered this:

I actually have never owned it, so bend me over and beat me up with a stick of sellery!

Yes, that and his voice turned me off to him for years; I like both now but only in small doses.
It's funny, it seems he has a good laugh at this melancholy in recent years; I guess he spent several years in a Buddhist monastery and as he entered advanced years, the anxiety just started to pass.  He apparently doesn't even credit Buddhist practice/discipline with this, just says old age finally cured him.  That gives me hope!

I guess everyone knows this already, but it was news to me just several years ago that Chevy Chase was technically/almost/sorta an original member of proto-SD.  Or played with Fagan in college, at any rate.  So did the film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum...all three of those guys played some jazz together in college.

Not on Newman's score cd for the film, so grabbed this single for $5.

It's only taken me 43 years to acquire this  :D  The praise heaped on it in the listening thread made me hit the buy button. Arrived this morning:

I enjoy seeing that kind of stuff too.  I saw this recently and some of the things that were released on the same date really blew my mind.

I liked these as well:

"Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Television's Marquee Moon both came out Feb. 8, 1977."

"The Beatles' White Album and The Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society both came out on Nov. 22, 1968."

Slightly related: I have never felt older than when I heard about the 10-year anniversary edition of Give Up.
