Where I live in Brooklyn--I moved last month, there are these Jewish patrol cars.  They are big 8-seat Chevy SUV's with red lights.  They pull you over, ask you if you're Jewish, and if you say yes they will ask you why aren't you wearing a hat.  They can be real d*cks to you you.  :)

Also there is a Synagogue really close to where I live.  Every Sabbath, if I make it home before sundown and usually I don't, it sounds like we are just about to get bombed.  It's an air raid siren!!  Two obnoxiously loud and very long calls to make sure all Jews drop all electrical appliances, etc.  Holy crap! it's SABBATH, drop what you doing. I seriously want to start a petition b/c this is ridiculous.  It really scared me the first time.  Why not have a bell or something nice?

You're a sissy.

Jews don't stop people and ask them if they are Jewish and demand them to put a hat, your saying a lie.

Secondly, the reason of the alarm  is to signal the arrival of the Sabbath.

I sometimes hear Church bells and it can go on for a while, ding dang, ding dang... and its not so pleasing but Jews and Christians have learned to respect eachothers' cultures and traditions. Where I live in Brooklyn, there are Jews, Italians, Irish, Poles and Russians who have no problem living with eachother in peace and dignity. I have never witnessed any problems. The Italians come to the Jewish area and do lots of shopping, and the Jews go to the Italian area and do lots of shopping as well, and there is no problem.

Its only folk like you who sissy away from new things, that are getting all scared about it.

Grow up!

Neecharasho Malchick, Marazm...

I don't know about the hat part, but I've been approached countless times by Jews of that sort where they come up to you and ask you if you are Jewish. It happens to me almost every weekend by where I live. I have learned to say 'no, I am not.' by now  ;D but I did say "yes' a few times in the past which was a big mistake  :-X :-X

Maybe because you look Jewish.

Where do you live?

Seconded. The Lubavitchers' "Command Vehicle" used to camp out right in front of my office in Manhattan, when I was working there.

So?

They are trying to get Jews closer to Judaism.

So?

They are trying to get Jews closer to their particular idea of Judaism.

I corrected that sentence for you.  ;)

I live in Battery Park City. There is a high concentration of Orhodox Jews who come to stroll along the promenade on Sundays. Once a couple of them held a blanket over my head while I was sitting by the river reading a book, and without asking me anything, they uttered some prayers and left  ??? SO I guess I must look a lot Jewish  :P

Saul, I don't want religious people of any sort approach me without me soliciting for it. I think it is rude and patronizing.

Josquin des Prez

I've been asked if i was a Jew a couple of times, once by somebody who was not a Jew, oddly enough. I guess i must look like one as well. I've taken an habit of carrying a copy of Mein Kampf under my arm for such occasions.

Subtlety is not one of your strong points.

Are you a friendly person?

--Jewish patrol is real.  And they DO ask questions like that.
Haven't you ever seen such vehicles?  They are not police, but I believe they can contact police, etc.  They are kind-of like Neighborhood Watch, or something.

I think they are called Shomrims. I didn't know they were still in existence though.

They are connected to the local police station and its a neighborhood security organization to protect the Jewish community. Yes, its called "Shomrim" which in Hebrew means "Guards". But its hardly original, there are many local watch institutions all around the U.S and its not exclusive only to the Jewish community.

I still tell you that they don't ask people to put a hat or ask them if they are Jews.

You know, a great deal of heat is lost through your bare head, especially in winter. So you could wear a hat too and sort of kill two birds with one stone.
