Question:
Do you think one day the gov may step in and put a  halt to most of these murder/suicides tragedies.
And will only allow the real bloody ones to make national news, like 4 or more are killed?
I suspect the government may want to try to surpress this daily growth increase in these types of murder/suicides.
These type news events are not good for a  stable healthy fabric of a  civil society.

Put together the freedom to buy guns with very little hindrance and the fact that 26% of the population are mentally ill what do you expect?

I expect parents to tell their kids.
"look when you are at school, no taunting. NONE ZERO. and if i get a  report that you have in any way, subtly, on the sly whatever, your arse is mud,, no car, no allowance, chores galore,  got it?"
That might be a  wise start for change at least  concerns for school shootings :)

I don't think it's that easy Paul, some kids could care less if their parents take away privileges ,money, cars their love or anything else.Children are being raised by their peers and have long since lost interest in their place in the family, the focus is to get away from your stupid parents who have wisdom and experience and get as close to their peers(who are as dumb as they are)as possible. They are prepared to leave home and live on the streets with peers as soon as the shit hits the fan.Hold your children close ,keep them from their peers as long as humanly possible and you might be able to save them from themselves.

. . . the fact that 26% of the population are mentally ill . . . .

If this is a statistic, where did it come from, please?

Perhaps he's referring to die-hard Bush supporters?   :D

well what he means is that there is some degree of psychic disturbance which affects some americans.

There's obviously more ticking time bombs out there, somewhere. And they are going off more frequently with each passing day.

*the parents*., man most kids can't stand any philosophy from *the parents*.
And i don't blame them.
You might be one of the wise parents, Good for you.
But for every 1 wise parent there are a  dozen air heads.

Well, then what I mean is, why does anyone imagine that Americans are uniquely afflicted in this wise?

But that's what I'm talking about, your children are going to school with the aforementioned children of the airhead parents, unless you have the means to send them to a school that screens out airhead parents your kids will be affected every day they go to school.

Ahhh how i perfectly anticipated that this would be your very next thought.
gee Karl, you are almost ...predictable :)

Well of course no one here is suggesting we should all move to Somalia ;), nor even to some cities in russia.
What we are saying is things can be spooky. On my vacation to california, i ran into some spooky places, where next time  I hope to make a  quick pass, but no stopping.
Folks in NO thought that one good thing about K would be that she'd clean up the city. its 10 X's worse.

BR was one of the coolest/safest  cities to live in , well except for  that period where the 2 serial  muderers terrorized  the 1990's - 2001.
Now with the passage of the 3rd casino, she's a  *gonner*. :'( :'(

ahh yes, i see what you mean, Kids are confused, even if you have some jems of wisdom , they might not have the capacity to understand and get led astray by peers.
dangerous times, very. And you know, you almost have to let the teen go *his road most traveled*, that way he may find the road *less traveled*.
Kids , with the Inet, are pretty up on issues, or so they think.
but they do know someone has been telling them lies. this they know as a  fact. They just have to figure out what the lies are.

gotta run..............

Not all that workable.
And what do you do with the *cases* once you find them? 24 hr guard their house/movements ::)
some (all southern california public) schools have kids that just want to see if they push the reject's button enough for his fuse to go off.

*go ahead, shoot us*...and sometimes, sadly enough,  he goes through with it.

Seriously, does anyone actually read those awful self-help books? These desperate people should read a little Socrates, Shakespeare, Goethe. Listen to a little Beethoven. Switch off the TV and go for a walk. Get a life.

You know there is so much wisdom locked away in Shakespeare. This is one of my next projects, to pick up on my Shakespeare readings.
Socrates wisdom is as valid today as then. Goethe, which of his books are you refering to? Jung speaks often of Goethe's 2 vol of Faust.
I would add Jung and his coworker Von Franz as part of your list.
I would  bring in Philo, but thats beyond most modern men's  comprehension.
No I am afraid all these new age *you can be smart* books will always be popular. At the expense of books that give real insight. :-X
The herds are what they are: herds. ;)

Lao Tzu is another, though not easy to understand.

BorisG

Nothing too surprising, since the US is the world's largest shooting gallery. Until the Constitution is amended, expect more of the same. $:)

Jupiter

Yes indeed. The herd will always remain the herd. We can only hope it gets smaller. Faust is a wonderful read, but Goethe's writings on natural history (especially plants) is fascinating.
