The wrong word, which is distressing to see an editor use, whose judgment has already been called into question.  Chauvinism is closer, but still not quite right, perhaps?

Better. I agree it's not quite there, but it's a lot closer.
What's missing is the ideological commitment, it's not just garden variety chauvinism, it's carefully cultivated chauvinism.

Hard to imagine this is real life...

Quote from: Matilda Battersby. . . jailed after she depicted Iranian government officials as monkeys and goats in a satirical cartoon . . .

There, you see, it was not satire, it was life-like.

I believe the answers to questions 4, 5, and 6 were adapted from Thomas Jefferson's diary.

QuoteAt a congressional hearing on campus sexual assault, Colorado Rep. Jared Polis suggested that expelling students based solely on the idea that they might have committed a crime is an acceptable standard. And the hearing audience applauded him.

Polis, a Democrat, was discussing due process and standards of evidence as they apply to colleges and universities adjudicating sexual assault. ...

"I mean, if there's 10 people that have been accused and under a reasonable likelihood standard maybe one or two did it, seems better to get rid of all 10 people," Polis said. "We're not talking about depriving them of life or liberty, we're talking about their transfer to another university."

For this, the audience applauded.

Headsetgate

Surprisingly the NFL has investigated and decided to blame the weather and not the Patriots.

Isn't it actually hilarious that the NFL is using such outdated technology? You'd think a business that makes as much money as they do, wastes money on independent reports by their in house lawyers, and can scare film studios into doing their bidding could spend a few dollars on a state of the art communications system. Oh, I forgot they can't even afford decent pressure gauges. Never mind!

Never saw that one. Thanks! Ever since the whole concussion scandal/problem I've really rooted against the NFL. I think they got off ridiculously easy in their settlement with the players. And NFL looks terribly stupid in the way they have handled recent scandals. But Goodell seems Teflon-like and until he screws up the revenue streams, it seems he will be around for a while.

The business is too big, that mere health or morality concerns should bring it to an end   :-\

I guess. I have watched this deflategate thing with a real zeal, I must admit. It was fascinating to me, because it was like watching a car hit a tree in slow motion. It defies common sense. It reminds me a bit of the pine tar incident. Can you imagine George Brett getting a suspension for a quarter of a season over that? It seems to me one of the closest analogies, except in that case, there was no arguing who did it. The batboy didn't rub it on un-noticed. I have also enjoyed reading all the legal analyses out there. Anyway, maybe others are not so interested...

Not guilty since I'm not girlfriend privileged (check your privileges, people!), but what does this mean when you do this as a kid... and your friend is black?  ???
