What are you grateful for?

Life's been tough lately. I've been embroiled in a work project that's made me uncharacteristically cranky (I'm sure folks here have seen a less pleasant side to my nature recently, for which I apologise :-[), and my wife and daughter are currently ill with gastro-enteritis. Quite worrying, as my five-month-old little girl can't keep her milk down for more than two hours.

Nonetheless, my daughter's cheerful disposition throughout her stomach upset reminded me this evening that I'm one lucky guy. I have a wife who loves me and I love her. We have a daughter who is so unlike the screaming, whining kids of so many we know that we're convinced the stork must've brought us someone else's little angel. I have a roof over my head, a warm bed, clothes on my back and food in my stomach - something which is denied so many people in this world. And I have a means to earn a living and provide for my family.

I'm not rich, but I'm happy. And hey, I've even got classical music. What more could I possibly want? :)

How about you? Counted your blessings recently?

Oooh, so sorry to hear about the tummy problems, Mark. :(

Good thread idea!

First of all, I am so very thankful to have a loving soulmate (despite the fact that we are both on opposite sides of the globe again & her mum's bad health which is the reason why we aren't married yet).  We both are very supportive of one another and I never thought I'd meet someone I'd be so in tune with.  She's the centre of my universe.  :)  My life would not be the same without her in it.  We talk almost every single day (we used to talk on average 35 hours a week, but lately because of her mum's declining health, that's been cut in half. :( )  We read books together, I'm teaching her a sort of classical music appreciation course, I help her with a novel she's writing, all sorts of learning projects we do together-- our own private university for two! ;)

I'm thankful for my current job and housing situation-- I walk to and from work every day (I fill up my truck with gas only every six weeks or so!) and I've been able to put back a good deal of money because of my situation now.  Money that will be used for a two week trip to New Zealand!  8)

I'm also thankful that I am able to live comfortably-- I am far from rich, but that's not what is most important to me.

In spite of my sometimes bad back, I am thankful for having pretty darn good health.

I'm also thankful that I can still find the time to get lost and mesmerised by nature and find a certain kind of inner quietude.  I need that kind of nourishment.  Not to mention music, poetry, literature-- so many worlds to explore!

Yes, what would we do without them?

Keep dredging up old topics till they ran out of steam? Or indeed, even after they've run out of steam?

What am I grateful for? See my reply in Saul's Beauty thread.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."
