The cutting edge ID research on the powerpoint slides, while admittedly difficult for a layman to follow, were from the community college biology class of one of the great scientific martyrs profiled by Ben Stein in Expelled. This brave soul tried to challenge the elite scientific establishment and was crushed by their repressive efforts (the college declined to renew her contract)

    Where's the outrage?  ;D

If it were really the case that believers were being expelled from academic positions because of their beliefs there would be an army of secularists who would oppose it. We do not replicate the standards of believers who fire theologians who stray from doctrine. If anyone doesn't understand this point, there are many scientists and academicians who are believers who can set the record straight. The fact that some of the colleagues of believers express dismay at the nature of what is believed is not a form of oppression.

Well, if a real live actual ROCKET SCIENTIST says evolution is unscientific, it MUST be true.  (You know he's an actual rocket scientist because there's a picture of a rocket next to his name.)

Gee, if I got a job teaching mathematics & I started teaching that 2+2 actually equals 5...

or if I got a job teaching geology & I started teaching that the earth was actually flat...

or if I got a job teaching history & started teaching that Abraham Lincoln was the first president of the United States...

-- do you think they'd let me keep my job?  ::)  HELP! HELP! I'M BEING REPRESSED!! Come and see the violence inherent in the system!!!

This should be amusing to those of you who have been following the whole "Expelled" thing.

Those who refuse to teach evolution are smarter. I mean the earth is only 4 thousand years old. Dinosaurs are a total myth. Cavemen never existed before Geico commercials. Bush is a good Christian president that speaks to God. And Pat Robertson is the reincarnation of Christ.         DUH!!!!!

So the real question is who planted those fossils around the globe and why...

I've never understood how Bush, Robertson etc.. always gets lumped in with the ID movement. Surely, there are degrees of stupidity.

Here's someone who figured it out.

(To answer the question immediately below that post: Yes, this guy's for real.)

Well, there are degrees of the sophistication of arguments used to justify the stupidity, but not of the stupidity itself.

Pat Robertson is an absolute nut, the definition of crazy. Anything he says the the polar opposite from the truth. He says ID is how things are, therefor i run away from it......... fast!

In all honesty i don't have much of a problem with ID, but look who is on your side. Religious fundamentalist that have been proved wrong before, so they cling to anything that can still prove their point, so they believe in some pseudo scientific theory that still shows how God is involved. It the same thing over and over again from the religious community.  They proclaim something is truth, then they get proved wrong, then they yell, "Well God ment it that way." Look back is history, the earth is the center of the universe....... that was wrong............. then the church said, "Well... um.... yeah, yeah, that just shows the true glory of God." Not to mention that was after the burning of books, house arrests, and killings.

I don't think of it as MY side, because Im not convinced on ID. However, I don't really think it's fair to lump it in with all other "failings" of religious explanations in the past (i.e. the ones you mentioned). This one uses the same data, but chooses to make a few "other" assumptions. I think that solution is just fine for them (ID scientists) to rationalize science with religion, but just not scientific, based on the fundamental tenets of science.

To be honest, I think to get wrapped up in these kind of details whilst calling oneself a Christian is kind of missing the point.
