He spoke with Mahler, right? And I doubt Mahler spent time studying the Finnish language......

Fantastic!   :) Especially really enjoyed the Intermezzo in D minor.

And you could certainly detect Bruckner's "style" in parts of the quintet.

I have always wondered about orchestrating the Quintet a la Bruckner!

Not a whole lot of late, with one notable exception being Jochum's EMI Bruckner 8. Interesting how fleet he seems compared to other major Bruckner composers who focus more on the monumental, spiritual aspects of the work.
