Bogey may simply be busy with real life;  I had a PM from him recently.

Playing with our kids and doing a lot of gardening with the Mrs.  Even finding the time to read through "the old gray lady" each morning.  Life is good at this end folks.  :)

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

I'd give my left chambernut for a delicious classical muffin.

I'll have some of those muffins, as long as they aren't from a 'HIP' recipe.   ;D

We only make the Dittersdorf muffins that way.

Those must be the Bran Muffins.

No matter how stressed or sleep-deprived I was at college, I made a point to read the Times every morning at breakfast, or as much of it as possible. What a wonderful newspaper...so much to read in it, unlike local garbage (yes, Houston Chronicle, I'm looking at you).

I miss Nigel.  I miss his wit, and the Opera forum just isn't the same without him.

Saul has left (see Sauls seperate, locked post).
The reason he has left, he says, is because of another poster.  It is impossible to have a happy presence in a place where one is constantly under attack, and unacceptable to be constantly under attack in the first place.

I am unlikely to leave because a maleovlent series of pixels decide to attack me.  But when they attack constantly there should be no more room for them, regardless of their experience and knowledge.

Amen to that.

Still, no matter who says what or how it is said, it is valuable to keep in mind that everyone here exists only in a representation of pixels or diodes, and how people represent themselves through these is a fair reflection of their character, good or bad.  I am unlikely to leave because a maleovlent series of pixels decide to attack me.  But when they attack constantly there should be no more room for them, regardless of their experience and knowledge.

It's just the interweb. This is a no-stakes environment, and, while perspective can get shifted in the middle of the proelium litterae, it is important to remember that nothing is gained or lost in the sparring matches that take place from time to time. Some folks aren't going to learn how to play nice, despite repeated attempts, for whatever reason they may have for being - to put it mildly - unpleasant. You take the good with the not-quite-as-good.

It's just the interweb.

I'm sorry to see Saul leave as well even if I strongly disagree with him on most things, and would have preferred him to concentrate on music in this forum. Keeping a modicum of civility even in the face of strong disagreement is a necessity for a well functioning forum, and I have noted that not everyone manages that.

Harry

I am sorry too, to see Saul leave, but I understand his decision.
He did not bother me, and sure was a colorful character, that had some disagreeable opinions, but then, there are more with that kind of behavior. But a Internet forum, has a constantly shifting population, due to sensibilities and tolerance levels. The line is different for every person. The world is not a nice place, populated with some nasty people, so its only normal that some of them appear on this forum as well.

Folks, no one forced Saul to read M Forever's comments.  Saul has made a dramatic exit, leaving a message which wants to place the blame on someone else.  (Anyone else;  Saul is never at fault, you know;  it's always Those Evil Others.) Oh, if only the moderators policed Certain Members more punishingly!  Oh, if only there were an Ignore Function, then my eyes would not be glued to these inconsequential messages which I don't like!

Saul did not leave because of anyone other than Saul.  Think about it.

It is the individual's responsibility to remember what is, and is not, important.  We are here to discuss music;  Music is important.

Hardly any of us is going to get along with everyone here;  we might wish it to be so (we can certainly act, ourselves, towards that ideal), but, you know, we don't see that out in The Real World, and it's a bit quixotic to expect to create a little pixel world where that will be the case, too.  If someone is bickering at you, it is of no importance.  No one here is my nanny, and it's my own look-out to remember what is of no importance.

There are a few people behind the various IDs here at GMG, with whom I have had the odd squabble.  With most of them, that squabble got sorted out, and we have since gotten on fine.

It's because, when you consider it, the squabbles are (let's say it again) of no importance.

Remember what Brian of Nazareth said: You're all different.

You've got to allow the other chap the freedom to be different, and not bend yourself out of joint because the differences don't always meet your own specs.

(More of the same snipped.)

Saul was hardly an innocent victim.

Yes, well, quite right...I knew what I was trying to say, and it was precisely the cartoon opus67 posted, so I may have wandered a bit into a quixotic World - thanks.
And yes indeed, Saul has left on his own steam.

Edit:  I removed my post, it not being very helpful or indeed insightful.
