GMG is my home base and Thomas Ligotti Online (http://www.ligotti.net) is becoming my second home lately - a site devoted to horror writer extraordinaire Thomas Ligotti, whom I am in the process of discovering. I have met some interesting people there, too.

Rod Corkins Classical Music Mayhem.   :)
First forum I ever joined was Radio Three last November 07 (somewhat limited in interactive content), then to Rod Corkins CMM where I found a real home.  Joined here in March but didn't post much at all, unable to settle, then followed someone who had become a good, respectful friend back into here again and now I have settled very much, the interactivity and discussions are superb, even if there is a rotten apple or two in a barrel full of ripened souls. :P
It is unlikely I will join others as this and the other fill an enormous amount of creative time which should be reserved for writing for commercial reasons!

Oops... You're right. I forgot! But they update the site with slow regularity. If there was a Forum there, things might be different. But still a must-visit for every Brianite, of course, once a month!  ;D

Morning!

There's only two websites I have up and running all the time.

DMusic.com - http://www.dmusic.com/
The oldest independent digital music community on the web! Apparently... I've been there 4 and a half years. Soon into my 1st year I became an administrator due to bouts of activity and general helpfulness  0:) The forums get rambunctious from time to time. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't on a regular basis!  ::) The wisdom of Solomon is often called upon. I occasionally Shoutcast songs from the website and am doing so as I type. The link to my page there is:
     http://rhthesinner.dmusic.net/

last.fm - I have 2 accounts there. Subotnick is where I listen to classical, jazz, avantgarde and world music - http://www.last.fm/user/Subotnick/
fergusmcphail is where I listen to everything else - http://www.last.fm/user/fergusmcphail/
Like Corey, I find the group forums pretty redundant. I like my lists and it is a great way of discovering music. For example, Douglas Lilburn was mentioned here and I thought he was interesting. I checked at last.fm to see what they had on him and found his orchestral works and 3 symphonies available to stream!  ;D

I love Australian music, art, literature and films. I can often be found browsing various sites for info and products. Some I visit often are as follows:

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/ - Australia's best youth orientated radio station
http://www.ozmusic-central.com.au/ozlinks/index.html - Australia's #1 music link resource
http://www.nova100.com.au/site/home.aspx - Melbourne radio playing new hits first and never more than two ads in a row!  ;D
http://www.aboriginalartonline.com/index.php - Aboriginal art is a beauty to behold!

TTFN.

I used to visit Metal-Archives forums but got bored once I realised how excessively pretentious hardcore fans of all types of music are - at least classical listeners generally have the intellect to back that up - with other genres it's like watching cripples fight. I do a brief scan of new threads once every month or so.

Hi kraehe, I go to MA daily, still, but post relatively little. The Symposium was a good idea but I really can't be bothered with it. Not that I post much here either.

Yeah, it seems as if those kinds of sites are almost invariably run by one person alone, and they update once every blue moon. Erkki-Sven Tüür's site hasn't been updated since 2005 —imagine how much he's written since then!

P.S. I do intend to hear Brian, but it looks like most of his music is out of print or never recorded. :( Well, the Naxos recording of the Gothic seems like a good place to start. :)

Thanks! I'm late for work, so I can't listen now. I'll give it my undivided attention as soon as I get home.

I certainly like this forum the most! I also follow the classical music section in a Norwegian hi-fi forum. From time to time I post on the rmcr. And infequently I check the music section in the Naim forum.

I don't have time for more than one classical music board, and this one is by far the most interesting, both in terms of the board's software and in the participants.  I do browse classical music blogs--maybe 20 or so--regularly, and Blognoggle, a classical music "blog aggregator" (i.e., that compiles extracts from posts) is a big help.

Wow.......  :D
(can't wait to download all of these!)  8)

Great, GGGGRRREEG. But I warn - not everything is great qua sonics or even performance. But it's better than nothing. If you're new to Brian, listen to symphonies 8 and 9 (as I said to Corey), and then listen to Elegy and the 28th and the 30th. Just to get the hang of Brian's distinctive and, for some (many?) people, difficult style.

Those six movements comprise the Gothic, under Boult (there is a txt file about it, too). That last movement is very long and I had to split it - if people want it as FLAC files they have to join it themselves. Otherwise they can just download it as an mp3.

So:

I- Allegro assai - attacca.flac
II- Lento espressivo e solenne - attacca.flac
III- Vivace - attacca.flac
IV- Te Deum Laudamus - Allegro moderato.flac
V- Judex crederis esse venturus - Adagio molto solenne e religioso.flac

and then, in conclusion, either

VI- Te ergo quaesumus - Moderato e molto sostenuto.flac.001
VI- Te ergo quaesumus - Moderato e molto sostenuto.flac.002

or

VI - Te ergo quaesumus - Moderato e molto sostenuto.mp3

If you can't manage FLAC files, I'd be willing to convert them all to mp3s...
