I often think about replacing my Ikea bookshelves with something more robust. Does that count?   >:D

Wow. At first I thought it was some kind of time lapse photograph being used as a hoax but there is a video. Not that that proves anything in itself - could be viral marketing for some end of the world film for all I know.

Something about it just doesn't ring true... The spiral pattern seems to be perfectly oblique to the viewpoint of everyone who has photographed it, which strikes me as odd as they would supposedly be photographing it from various angles.

An update has been posted on Spaceweather.com: http://spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=10&month=12&year=2009 -- an out-of-control Russian ICBM is a probable candidate.

If, as people are suggesting, this happened out at sea and a fair distance away, and all the observers were inland, then there wouldn't be much difference at this scale.

It's the Giant Aneroid Barometer from Outer Space, and we're all DOOMED.

I think it looks like a big coiled telephone cable going into the sky. Guess someone does really does have a direct line to the big man in the sky after all.  ;D

The BBC confirms it's a Russian sub-launched missile. The spiral pattern is produced by the missile going out of control. Think of fireworks rockets. That's what they do.

I don't want to alarm Karl even more, but I'm afraid it really is the Giant Aneroid Barometer from Outer Space:

Let's not be distracted by the cover-up stories about a Russian missile. It's the biggest, fiercest barometer in the galaxy, and it's COMING for YOU.

No, it's a Cosmic Egg Timer. We're done.

In the immortal words of Paul McCartney:

You say yes, I say no
You say stop and I say go, go, go
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello

I say high, you say low
You say why, and I say I don't know
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello

Why, why, why, why, why, why
Do you say good bye
Goodbye, bye, bye, bye, bye

Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello
Hello

Hela, heba helloa
Hela, heba helloa

Another example of how the visual arts are constantly over-promoted compared to music: a TV show on the "restoration" of a medieval castle has just finished. They were at pains to show their "meticulous research" on the furnishings and decorations, and yet the soundtrack to the programme was fully new age, with keyboard string instruments and miscellaneous undefinable hooting. I don't get how the people involved can be so short-sighted...

I wonder how many people think that medieval courtly music sounded like Wagner.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

So, today, the guy I enjoy talking to most at work was caught stealing from one of the registers, arrested, and fired. I saw him walking out of the store in handcuffs and it looked like he had been crying.

There goes another person that actually gave me a reason to look forward to going to work. The last guy who I really enjoyed talking to was fired about a year ago because after he came back from jail (apparently driving while on painkillers), I heard he passed out while clocking in at the registers and then failed a drug test.

I don't understand what's wrong with these people. The guy with the painkillers is one that was abnormally nice, friendly, fun (though sometimes a little bit too hyper) and it was fun talking about anime or Japanese stuff with him. The guy who got fired today was a really messed up guy with tons of problems and anger, but he's the only person I can really talk music with (I even planned on playing guitar with him, and playing his bass), among other things. I had no idea he would do something so stupid.

And then someone else who I somewhat enjoyed talking to is leaving soon... I just don't understand.

There are lots of people out there. Don't think that the world is collapsing because one or two people pass out of your orbit now.

Yeah, I do plan on going to community college in August, so that'll take care of that, and more.  8)
I can take 7 months (starting end of Jan.) with just 2 or 3 interesting people to talk to- I've done it before with 0 (not counting internet people).  8)
