I actually knew someone who was learning the language from The Lord of the Rings. My dad's friend and his wife were learning it so they could talk to each other in public and people wouldn't understand what they were saying. I don't know how much they learned, but in my opinion, it would be fun but a waste of time at the same time. Why not learn a real language, which is just as fun, but also actually useful at the same time?  ???

How sad does it make me if I have to (and can) ask if it's Quenya or Sindarin that they were learning?

Better yet, Black Speech. Marital rows would enter a whole new dimension. 8)

Honestly, I don't know which one, and I'm not even 100% sure it was even The Lord of the Rings- more like 80% sure.

QuoteThe only example given of "pure" Black Speech is the inscription upon the One Ring:
Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul,
ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

When translated into English, these words form the lines:
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.
I had to look up Black Speech... it's been so long since I've read the books and watched the movies, that I couldn't even remember a name of any of the languages in LOTR.  :-\

But... to me, that has a similar look to Hungarian.

In other news, Rimsky-Korsakov is the featured Wikipedia article for today.  8)

I'm thinking of changing my last name to "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" or "_", so if I'm in some type of list of composers (such as the list on my computer), I'll always be at the top of the list...  :)

How about Aaacook? And you'd also need to make your first name Aaagreg for those with lists arranged by first name.

Aaagreg Aaacook. That sounds either Dutch, or vaguely Old Germanic.

Those names sound so awkward. I could also just go with "Aaaaaaaaaaargh," since it sounds tough and pirate-like.

You are close to the sea are you?

Somewhat... I think it's a little over an hour away. I don't know exactly, because I don't like the beach much- i'd only go there if I could bring my laptop.

So you might stick out a bit as a pirate, when so far from the sea?

Yeah, though if I do, it's all the same. Doesn't really matter.
