I would be absolutely fine with living where the temperature ranges from very cold in the winter to only moderately warm in the summer. Norway or Iceland would be perfect.

I would prefer the other way!  32 degrees farenheit sounds a lot warmer than 0 degrees celsius even though it's the same temperature.  (and it would feel cooler if it was 32 degrees celcius rather than 90 degree farnheit)

Of course, I may be a little bit crazy.....

I have always assumed it was so that when people say it is cold, it sounds freezing, and when people say it is warm, it sounds like a heatwave. In a country with no dramatic weather, you must create your own drama.

Celsius makes way more sense. 0 for freezing, 100 for boiling. Very simple. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Fahrenheit.  ::)

Celsius is better. It's the superior form of temperature measurement.

And then Kelvin is superior to Celsius since 0 is absolute. 0:)

Just what I had in mind reading the previous posts. ;D

Oh, and it's a cool 300.15 K where I live, at 2000 hrs. It rained in the evening, after nearly a month of boiling in the sun, and everyone's happy!

Fahrenheit, miles, lbs...  You're still in the Bronze Age when it comes to measurements. ;D

Since the majority of US citizens believe decimal based measurement systems are part of an ungodly socialist conspiracy, it could not be otherwise.

BTW, I was not previously aware of what Kelvin actually is! It's basically Celsius transposed by 273.15, so the conversions should be pretty easy.

Whee, I got a new volunteering job as a museum conservator. This time it may actually lead to paid employment for the first time in a while. It wasn't in a field that I anticipated any luck in, given how much competition there is for positions (and the current financial climate - my town's museum has had to close recently), but I suppose it is a question of leaping at any additional training that they offer you until you become somewhat indespensible, and this current position seems to offer a fair bit.

Outstanding, Sara! It may not be so obvious to the general public, but conservation is the lifeblood of the artistic repository of the world!

Coco

Sounds perfect for you, S! :D

Lethevich

Danke! I was becoming despondant about my lack of prospects (self-inflicted for various reasons), but I am glad I avoided trying for an office job, because the environments I'll be around in this are much nicer.

This is silly, but: ever since I was small I had a strange fascination for high streets that had almost perpetually locked and gated doors. Every now and again when I saw somebody actually go inside one, I wondered what kind of privileged position this person was in, and where the alleyway led behind the maze of shop buildings. This curiosity is doubled when it's an old town, because what is inside (perhaps a yard, and an external flight of steps going to the first floor) will possibly be relatively untouched by recent development because it's a functional part of the building rather than a street-facing part. The area I will be starting out in requires going through just one of those mystery gates, meaning that a far more important milestone in my life has been reached than mere employment.

Now, when I watch the opening credits of Get Smart, I'll think of Sara : )

95ºF today, landlord continues to ignore our requests to fix the air conditioner. I think it's time to move.  :(

Mn Dave

Yesterday, we were the hottest we've been since '88.  :o

eyeresist

It's chilly down under.

Coco

Ha, and while I was at work yesterday he dropped by and fixed it. I'd forgotten what 75ºF feels like.  0:)

We are almost at the 500K posts, GMG.  Is there a prize to the poster who puts up the 500,000th post?   :D

karlhenning

Had a wisdom tooth extracted this morning.  In pretty good shape, all things considered . . . but I am grateful for the pain medication.

DavidW

Sorry to hear that Karl.  Bet you'll feel fine in a couple of days. :)
