Well, he didn't make a lot of money and didn't manage the production of particularly shiny objects, but he did contribute MUCH to computer science: Dennis Ritchie, the inventor of the C programming language and a developer of the UNIX operating system, passed away on the 8th. It's difficult to sum up how much these two creations of his have influenced the world since their inception. For one, Mac OS X is Unix-based. And for all this, much of the world learned of this news through a post in Google Plus nearly a week after the event.

Mac is Unix-based and most video games are written in C or C++, yet you don't hear about this guy on the news...  ::)

On a serious note, I didn't know Sarge's namesake was a comic book character until I saw your post.

Yep. An oldie.

On That Metal Show, they feature Graham Bonnet mentioning Andy's band, Lyraka. He can't pronounce Andy's last name!  :D

Yeah, that was embarassing. He should change his name to Andy D. so these old rockers can pronounce it.

karlhenning

I thought his name was Andy D . . . made it easy for us composer types . . . .

It's a seasonal thing with the Davids of the board. One minute, they're here; and in the next, they vanish -- only to come back a few months later.
Who told you about the annual gathering of the Davids?  (It makes Burning Man look like a Sunday School picnic!)  Every year we have to go for a refresher course in how to be annoying, taught by:

"Maybe the problem most of you have ... is that you're not listening to Barbirolli." ~Sarge

"The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money." ~Margaret Thatcher

It's middle of October and basically all registered for spring semester!   8) ??? :o 8)

Coco

Cool. Our first day of reg isn't until Nov. 6th. I'll be there the first day so I can get in on all the classes I want.

PaulR

I also want to do it early so I get in the classes I want.  The grad school is smaller than undergrad, so I should get into the only other class I want to get into.

ibanezmonster

I would be registered by now, but I have to get my high school transcripts.

Coco

BTW Greg, I'm going to register early next semester so I can take Japanese :)

PaulR

Well.......I am taking Schenkerian Analysis...... :P
