Just curious, Karl: did you post the above from a hand-held device?

No, Nav, that one was from a computer.

This one, though, from a Droid.

Interesting how the quotes work differently between the two media . . . .

Rumor has it... Adele swept the grammys.  This is cool because she is cool, and 21 is my favorite album of the year. :)

Danke. I've seen the different 'quote formats' from two computers, on different browsers. I thought it was the (side-)effect of TapaTalk.

Might be; I am using Tapatalk on the Droid. (I mean, generally; right now I'm posting from a computer.)

Oh, look! A new post to the thread! Must be somebody posting how he actually prefers something other than the thread topic!  How interesting!

Apologies.

Karl is not attacking you.  He is passive-aggressively attacking MI for his post on the Bullwinkle thread. :)

I believe the curious case of Socrates can shed light on this phenomenon. Apparently one day he suggested a thread topic (in the Athenian Forum, I guess) and then asked all the wisest men in Athens to post a response using their computers. Turns out that everyone posted about something other than the thread topic, and that's how he realised he was actually himself the wisest man in Athens because he was the only one who didn't have a computer. Of course he never realised what amazing CD bargains* he was missing, but that's another story.

I may have got the details of this wrong here and there, but I'm pretty sure the gist of it is right.

*Of course in those olden days it would have been vinyl LPs.

It's history come to life! I love it! Presumably So-crates was condemned to death after quietly opining that he thought Havergal Brian was overrated? ;)

Regarding the recent quote formatting quirks, I too have noticed this, particularly in the posts of J.Z. Herrenberg. At first I assumed he was just being persnickety....

I wasn't aware of this, but it has the ring of truth to it, doesn't it? (Even though critics may carp that Socrates had not heard Brian at his full maturity). So surely it's a line of scholarship worth pursuing, along with further study of Plato's ideas about the fallacy of regarding a cave as the ideal home audio listening environment.

Plato was write about the cave thing, but you have to line the floor with special sand that costs $2000 per square foot. Some people skimp and go for the $50 supermarket dirt, but reputable A-B tests have shown!
