I'm no great topic-starter, but this one seems necessary.

Last year, on July 9, I found this forum by accident. I was looking for more information on Polish composer Mieczyslaw Karlowicz, and had of course to bump into the greatest Polish propagandist of them all - Maciek, who had uploaded K's Violin Concerto... I became a member just to thank him, not knowing I would almost start a new virtual life here.

I have learned a lot and laughed a lot this last year. So I want to thank everyone who has taught me something, in whatever way. I have discovered so many new composers (depleting my bank account in the process) because of the infectious enthusiasm so often on display, my musical horizon has broadened enormously. And I have made new friends.

I think I'll be here for some time to come.

Amen to that, as they say, Johan.

And I might as well listen to Boult's (Brian's) "Gothic" for the occasion's sake. It's lain quiescent in my hard drive for far too long. ;)

After having gone through the entire first part, and a chunk of the second part (obtuse language, anyone? :P), I can confirm my suspicion:

I like it! A lot. Thank you, Johan - Havergal Brian will receive more of my attention beyond doubt.


Which, in fact, marks Brian as the first classical composer I have discovered solely through this forum! 8)

Couldn't J. Alfred just have visited his tailor and gotten alterations?
