I'm looking to replace my stereo here at home (and possibly to bring to school when it starts).  Not that the one I have now is bad.  I like it a lot, but I usually just listen to my iPod since most of my music is stored on the iPod, and my current stereo doesn't have an auxiliary slot where I can plug my iPod in.  I have no clue in what to look for in stereo's, but i don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on it, and it can't be too big, and also with a CD player.

I was wondering if anyone here had something like this, and can give me a suggestion of what to get.

thanks in advance :)

The tabletop CD player/radio I received this summer has an iPod dock, which I cannot use, as I do not own an iPod (and I'm happy with my Sansa Fuze, so no iPod is in my foreseeable future).

If this dock can be of use to you, it's yours for the asking.

What brand and model is it?

A nice thread, RoF! I'd be interested in recommendations about iPod docks (with or without speakers).

Why just an iPod dock - why not an MP3 player dock? iPods are not the best MP3 players out there and I'm disappointed that all they can offer is a dock for an iPod and not my Samsung.

I also want to buy a portable dock for my iPod, so I am grateful for any advice.

I should perhaps clarify (judging from subsequent posts) that this is just a dock, and that you would hook it up to a player device.  It is the dock "made for iPod" which came with a Cambridge Soundworks Radio CD 745.  The dock has two plugs: a 2.5mm Player Power minijack, and a 3.5mm Player Input minijack.

To clarify for me....I want advice on a dock that has speakers, but compact.

If I understand you correctly, (I may not), I have one like that.  It's a logitech mm32 portable iPod system. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Portable-Speaker-System-Black/dp/B000FOG8LQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1218318062&sr=1-4

For me, it works fine, and it's not terribly expensive.

Thanks, I will have a read through that.

You can get a dock from Apple that fits your iPod, or one with adapters that fits different models. It has a line out that works very well and a USB connection for charging and iTunes interface. If, unlike me, you can't be influenced to connect your computer and stereo together, buy 2 docks, one for each purpose. There might be some reason to buy an expensive dock to mate up with your stereo, I just don't know what it is. My all purpose dock cost $20 or so.

Mike, I have my eye on this one, but haven't heard how it sounds. The speakers look decent enough for a small room and there's an auxiliary input to connect other media players besides iPods.

Tasos, That looks pretty full scale. I am thinking of something so I can travel with it. So, probably not great sound, but good enough for a few days somewhere away from home.

It's certainly not that portable. I thought you meant it to be moved to different rooms or to a back yard/balcony.

This is portable and probably sounds good. too. Tivoli table radios have a good rep.

     I'd worry about reliability. :D

I think that though I like the look of the last option, it is a bit too big for handluggage.
