hi!

I'm listening to the Emerson SQ playing Bach Fugues. I quite like the cd, but somehow I feel harder to understand the structure. I find it much easier when listening to Gould's version, more clear. What do you think of Emerson's Bach?

Can anyone tell me who is E.A. Foerster, who made some of the transcritions of bach fugues for string quartet? Is this the same person who made the pianos?

Opus106

Hi, orange. I think I belong to the other camp in this case. While I can follow the voices of a fugue to some extent when it is played on a keyboard instrument, I find it much easier to follow when it is played by a string quartet - it makes sense when each has an instrument of its own. When it's a keyboard, I find it difficult to "keep track" of all of them. (it's always the nth and (n-1)th voice. :D ) But I still love Preludes and Fugues, even if they are played on a piano.

Re: Emerson's Bach, I'm expecting my copy of the AoF. I suppose you're referring to their more recent CD with Mozart's transcription of Bach's fugues for a string quartet?
Regards,
Navneeth
