Rumor has it that we won't wake up tomorrow, there won't even be a bed to wake up on, there'll be a huge black hole where the earth should be.

But will the balls touch? Oops, wrong forum...

Yay for scientists, anyway. If the world does blow up, at least there won't be any world hunger/murder ;D

False. They're not actually colliding particles tomorrow, just sending one on a joyride.

Hawkins says there's nothing to worry about.  Things

will                          just                                                       get

False. He only said that because the batteries on his voice unit were near flat.

There won't be any delicious cake either.

Stephen Hawking used to go for the occasional evening trundle under my Cambridge window. Seeing him all lit-up as he zoomed through the darkness like a satellite floating through space was rather beautiful, I thought....

An Earth-mass black hole would actually be quite petite.

Implode, more like.

For those who do worry, here's an article to allay their fears...

Miniature black holes are no danger.

I think they'll just make a small black hole where aliens pop out, just like in Half Life.

You spoke too soon - the world is going to end in 5 minutes!

Which frankly sucks, as my dinner won't be ready until 15 minutes time. I won't even get a last meal. Bastards.

Edit: Death inc in 30 seconds.

Nothing has happened.  The protons have been fired and things seem ok, and we'll soon know how the Universe began.  Particle Physics...hang on, the particles haven't collided yet.... :-\ :-\ :-[ :'( Goodbye everyone.... :-[ :'(

I love the way that only 1 min before the button is pressed, the news channel sees fit to inform me that they are going to gradually build up the speeds over several hours. So while I get to eat my meal, I am still annoyed that if the universe does blow up, we can't even do it on time...

Is there a convenient time for the Big Crunch?

Yes.  February next year.

Sounds lovely. Trundle is a very nice, smile-making word too, I like it. A few years ago I saw him coming out of Burlington House at the Royal Academy. I used to think that he was there to view an exhibit but I now recall there's an astronomical society within the building. Is Stephen Hawking still writing?

Now maybe Chinese New Year will mean more for you all!

I still come across news times about new books and the books themselves at stores, but they haven't made much of impact like his best-seller.
