Good to hear this music up-tempo, for once! :)

I appreciate Kubelik's Schumann, too.

Topic duty:

Rachmaninov's Vespers, breathtakingly beautiful, with Vladimir Minin and his Moscow Chamber Choir. Also with attributions from a children's choir in some of the movements, works very well IMO.

Good ? One rarely sees works by him, but they are usually quite catchy ?

Good! Quite catchy. Of course not all of them equally, but I'm really enjoying them. He seems to be very responsive to the words, getting a lot of inspiration from them. And singer and pianist are also a pleasure to listen to.

Ooh, I wonder how this one compares to his Warner/Telarc recordings. I get the feeling that it will be hard to track down somebody who has heard both, though :(

I have! :) It's been a while since I last listened to the Warner recordings though, but if I remember correctly, I was far more impressed with this Philharmonia set... I'll have to re-listen to both soon though.

You're welcome! :)

Thought I'd end the night with some Glazunov. I love this music so much! :)

Listening to Symphony No. 3 "Sebastopol". This is such a haunting work. I can't quite put my finger on the emotion this work conjures up for me, but there's a sadness to the music with a touch of nostalgia.

Listening to Symphony No. 2 right now. This is just a far out, cool piece of music. I'm digging the rough-and-ready demeanor of the music. This is Prokofiev in enfant terrible mode. 8)
