J. S. Bach Concerto for Flute, Violin, Harpsichord and Strings A minor BWV 1044, Leonhardt and the Collegium Aureum. I don't believe I've ever heard this before  :o

Nor have I heard this lineup before. The harpsichordist is Bob van Asperen. Leonhardt did not participate at all - the information on the sleeve is ambiguous.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

That one's on my wish list.

If the repertoire appeals to you, I'd say don't hesitate. Splendid performances in that impressively immersive Chandos sound.

Oh! Just the Nyman.

Good choice, The Piano Concerto has several recordings, but that is the best...and I believe that is still the only MGV recorded, and MGV is a really exciting piece. Interested to hear your thoughts.

Also, have you listened to Schnittke's Minnesang yet?

Finished up my first take of Barbirolli's recording of Elgar's symphonies.  Good, but I think I prefer both Boult and Sinopoli.

My capsule judgment as well.

I'd assumed Leonhardt was conducting/directing...but no?

It is, but it is also music I really have to be in the mood for. Otherwise it becomes the aural equivalent of chinese water torture. Luckily, I was in the mood last night because Mrs. Rock had it on repeat  :o   ;D

That looks quite interesting. I never heard of him, but there are several discs available.  RE: Cartellieri

Hi Neal - check out this 2005 thread that I started in the Old Forum on this windy composer!  ;D   Believe that I have just the same 4 discs!  Dave :o

Curious, this coincidental fixation of Lenny's for the key of G Major here.

Characteristic of his manner, these are obviously 'later' in sensibility than HIP, and yet, purt near as energetic.
