Getting strange Pärt vibes from this. The title piece keeps coming frustratingly close to really catching fire, but always withdraws, But on a technical level it is superb.

Highlights from this morning:

Jacques Ibert
Tropismes pour des amours imaginaires
Jean Martinon; Orchestre National de l'ORTF

Franz Schubert
String quartet in G minor, D 18
Melos Quartet

W.A. Mozart
Piano sonata in D major, K 311
Ronald Brautigam, fortepiano

[asin]B000026576[/asin]

I'm loving Brautigam's performance, and I'm not a big fortepiano fan.  I do find the recording a bit 'echoey', though - it sounds like Nimbus instead of BIS!
So much great music, so little time...

Until I scrolled down I thought this was an ECM disc when the image was half-cut off at the bottom of my screen :)

Past tense? Or do you still hate it  ;D

It's a perennial favorite around here. Mrs. Rock requested it this evening.

Yes!  The Eighth Sonata is now playing!  Waiting for the final two pianoclysms!

I remember my old Michael Ponti VOX set, which many criticized as "wrong-headed."  But he could slam-dunk these, and I suspect that is what some people disliked.
