Nice! I just (and I mean just) finished ripping that and the Couperin disc. Now all that remains is tagging the files and then playing them. :) The nice surprises/discoveries for me from the disc were Royer and Duphly... such beautiful pieces.

I'm listening to the Royer's Les tendres sentiments now. Yes, quite beautiful.

Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

And while I tag, I'll listen to another interpretation of the Royer.

Sounds quite literally like a sewing machine at places, with Rousett pounding the instrument. ;D

Ah, how great! Does this mean the Blind Comparison will start soon? I'm looking forward to taking part in it.

That looks quite interesting. I never heard of him, but there are several discs available.

I hadn't either before this recording - apparently he was Czech-born, of Italian heritage, and also wrote numerous operas.  Like too many people at the time, he died very young (age 34).  The music is tuneful and well-done - if you had told me this Wind Partita was by Mozart, I'd have believed it!

Thread duty:

Gustav Mahler
Symphony no. 7
Hermann Scherchen; Toronto SO

Recorded in concert in 1965

(the only cover image I could find)

Scherchen's tempos are often fast (sometimes comically so), and the Toronto Symphony does its level best to keep up, but ultimately this isn't a competitive Mahler 7 by today's standards.  But it's definitely worthwhile for the curious or the adventurous, or the Mahler completist (like me ;D), as a document of a performance when this symphony was still relatively unknown.
So much great music, so little time...

J. S. Bach Concerto for Flute, Violin, Harpsichord and Strings A minor BWV 1044, Leonhardt and the Collegium Aureum. I don't believe I've ever heard this before  :o

You will enjoy this (I hope). The singing is excellent, and I rather like the ways they have organized it.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!
